Well the trips done and dusted, the beer is drunk and the goulash digested. So heres my summary of 3 days in prague, hope you find it helpful if your planning a trip there.
First of all because im English and a northerner to boot, we are obsessed with the weather, in the cold dark bleak north east england we like summer temps in the 17-24 c range above that its holiday weather and below is winter (9 months a year). Ive been to Prague a few times now and i have to say that it was bloody hot!!! in the low 30's, ive only known temps like that in Turkey and Spain. Anyway the temps curtailed our activities, i couldnt be arsed to go trawling around looking for coins, but i did find a few treasures , more of that later
You cant help noticing all the very eloquent architecture , im no admirer of nice buildings but even i was impressed, the city is overflowing with it ,me being a practical guy i could only marvel at the man hours that must of went into building these very ornate buildings , I thought shit these people were very wealthy at some point and the Czech government have done a good job of erasing years of neglect by the invading forces of Germany then Russia.
After a while you realise that most of Prague appears to be situated underground , maybe the Czechs evolved from Hobbits at some point, maybe they lived isolated under the earth, developing their own culture, then emerged with this totally different language that even the most dedicated linguist find hard to master. Anyway every building seems to be about 8 storeys high with 3-4 of them under the ground. Could be that they were restricted for space or that that the underground areas were a good way to offset the extremes of temprature outside
should of took my ladders with me and knicked a bit of that gold off that roof you see
The Czechs seem to love expressing themselves through art and sculpture, for you cultutre vultures there is theatre, live music events and sculptures scattered across the city, i can only think that the years of oppresion has left the Czechs with a deep need to express themselves, even down to a few of the pubs, this one below really caught my eye (actually it was the 40 Kc beer price)
It looks totally shabby and run down from the outside but when you go into it this is what you find
The whole place is fitted out with bespoke furniture and metal sculptures (and the beers nice) On close inspection they all appear to be recycled metal pipes and random bits of metal hammered and twisted into shape to create a variety of bizzarre creatures
The place also has some interesting artwork, this is on the bog door
If you ever get to Prague look this place up its on one of the main tram routes opposite the park on Ujezd street between the charles and legion bridges. Its called Klub Ujezd
In the meantime see if you can figure out whats going on here, i did but wor lass couldnt get her head around it , she even went round the back for a look, thats her with the yellow top on ( we'd had a few Kozels at this point, thus her confusion
Anyway i'll talk about the food and beer in part 2 but heres a pic anyway to whett the appetite
Beautiful city, nice photos, I didn't understend this photo
I think its a frame joined via a pole disguised as the bamboo pole, the person on the bottom gives it stability( notice the mat covering the ground probably hides the base of the frame), the pole supports another platform that the ''suspended guy'' sits on. I could be wrong, but it is clever nonetheless. thanks for reading and commenting
Hi, looks like you had a good time. That is cool. Normály it is not so hot there, this summer is extreme all around the Europe. Town was developed through the centuries, so yes, old town has all sorts of nice buildings.
Next time you come, check the youtube series Prague Honest Guide to find out about all interesting places and tips.

Still on my list! Pilsener is names after Czech city of Pilsen.)(Plezn)
It is spelled Plzeň actually :-) Otherwise you are correct. Unfortunately it is already owned by foreigners. Only remaining Czech owned big brand is Budějovický Budvar (yes, also called Budweiser). Also nice, but very different, more sweet kind of beer. There is so many small breweries and so on, nearly every town has one. And beer is cheap all around :-) Sure our country is worth a visit :-)
You Czechs(?) are surely the master brewers, i didnt have any hangovers or acid reflux i get with most english beer, shame your more famous brews are being taken over by international companies, i guess the micro breweries are the answer. I tried a few in Prague just off Narodni street, great food aswell
So what are beer prices like around the rest of the Czech republic? Are there any nearby cities worth visiting, ive heard Brno is worth a weekend trip, Prague really is getting too crowded for us , too many tourists LOL
Hi, yes, the micro breweries are all around Czech and usually you can try them just in few pubs or so. There is even successful project running small brewery in the standardized container. I saw it with the demonstration and it was really cool :-)
Anyway, myself I am from Brno and it is for sure worth to visit. Most people find it cheaper, more relaxing, not so croudy and they say people are friendlier.
Also Stodolni street in Ostrava is good party place in weekend. It is not what it used to be anymore, but still you can easily spend a weekend there and have fun with locals. Each town offers many opportunities for "day life" also, not just night. For example in Brno they are organizing free walks around with some explanations and history talks.
Both cities are "student cities" so for the best nightlife, I recommend to visit them during school time (schools are off from June - September). Unfortunately weather is not so good during school months.
Depends what are you looking for really...
Thanks didnt know that , loads of pilsner around Prague , i think i sampled quite a good range , i liked the dark malty beers like kozel . If you like beer and havnt been to Prague, you should look at going when they have their beer festival in May. Ive been a few times, they have a good range on display alongside live music and Czech food.

I found my Five Dollar 1913 U.S. Gold Coin while window shopping in Old Town, Prague 1...
A strange find indeed, did you find out how it got there?
It was in Perfect Condition, so I figured someone may have spent it there and someone else set it aside for years, until it ended up in that Window for me to spot... I gave them 182 Federal Reserve Note Dollars for it... Going by it's Condition, it's currently valued at $75,000...
Bloody hell that was good buisiness, i'll be considerably more vigilant next time
