OK, I am confused about upvoting right before payout. I do that on my own posts because I thought I read that it leaves my curators a bigger piece of the pie if I vote last... am I missing something?

Voting on an old post (older than 3-4 days) is generally regarded as punk-ass...
Why? And how would a newbie be expected to know that? Like I said, I thought the polite thing was to be the last to upvote your post, and I read that HERE somewhere.
I'm with you @fishyculture. If you're late to the upvote, your percentage of the payout is substantially lower at a decreasing rate. So if you throw in at the last min, you're donating to everyone else. I have no idea how people have gotten this so badly wrong. Upvoting at the last second is the nicest thing you can do to people who have upvoted any post. This ugly cat is spreading misinformation.
Thank you! I am trying to be a good steem neighbor, and trying to learn. Just declaring something "punk ass" with no explanation sees kinda... punk ass.
It’s all a fucking mire that has gotten ridiculous. Probably when you get up over 500,000 SP your concerns change — while back down here on earth we’d just be happy to share posts and fun...
...who gives a shit when you upvote your post? If it’s available it’s allowed as far as i’m concerned — all these dogma-huffing ego-vigilantes can eat my: i don’t give a fuck!
Totally agree
