If you have been following my blog you know that my family loves to hunt silver half dollars. Yesterday my wife picked up our order of $1,000 worth of half dollars from the bank. We had the added bonus of having Grandpa help us with this hunt.
We were not as successful as last week when we found 78 silver half dollars, but this week was not bad at all.
We got seven silver half dollars and two proof coins. We found three 40% silver half dollars (Those are 1965-1969). We also got two 1964 silver half dollars which are 90% silver. All these are Kennedy half dollars.
In all my silver hunting I have never found a Benjamin Franklin half dollar or a Liberty half dollar. This hunt we found one of each. These are both 90% silver. They are both in really rough shape but silver is silver any way you look at it.
To round out the evening we found two proof coins. I do not know much about proof coins other than they are really shiny and have an S mint mark. If any of you can help me out with what these are worth, I would really appreciate it? They are a 1994 and 1985, not in the best shape and are the copper version not silver, but still really cool.
Well that was the results for our evening coin hunt. We had a blast. Grandpa really enjoyed himself and wished we had another few boxes to go through. Stay tuned to the blog for future hunts and results. Get out there and find some of that wild silver!!!
Keep on hunting my friend, and hope next time you will get a bigger share of Silver coins.
Thank you sir!
Excellent job! The most I've ever found was two or three. It's always fun though! I'm hoping to pick up a box later this week, I'll do a post on it too. @ironshield
Look forward to hearing about your results. Good luck!!!
Wow, what fun!! Anytime I get change I always sift through it just in case I find a silver quarter or dime. Hasn't happened yet, but my mother has found a couple over the years by doing that. It's fun and I hope for the day I'll get lucky to find one, haha! I wish I was more knowledgeable to know what other coins are valuable to spot them out if i happen to get some. This is a great idea though. I'm sure you would need to trade a good amount of money to find any. If I ever have $1000 or close to do that I will give this a shot! Great job guys:)
Thank you! It is alot of fun. The best part is you get all your money back if you do not find any. Thanks for checking out my blog. Have a great day.
Yes! There is no harm in doing it! Heck, maybe i should start now with just a few bucks. You'll never know unless you try. You're welcome:)
In the winter we sit around the fire and sort change looking for silver, never thought of buying the rolls and breaking them down. Looks like you had fun with the family which is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. You should try the rolls some time. It is a blast
Sweet find with the liberty one! After seeing the last few of your posts about this topic makes me want to pull out what I have collected over the years and to see what I have. I can tell you this...the other day I was looking through a little baggie of coins and I found a 1943 Steel Penny and since I have never bought one of those I must have gotten it in pocket change at some point in the past!
Steel penny is a great find!!!
How did you order them?
Just walk in and ask to order. We have a business account for our farm so we can order any kind of currency at no cost from the bank. I have never tried it with a personal account but should work.
Awesome! Thanks!
Looks like wholesome family fun. Plus you can search more rolls. Nice finds, surprising how much silver is still out there.
Some weeks we do not find any but some weeks we find a bunch. The kids love it. They think they are treasure hunters.
Quality time= Priceless
very cool!
We just started hunting silver also... and the kids LOVE it! Some banks are super friendly, and some not so much. We have found that credit unions are the MOST friendly and helpful. Only been kicked out of one bank so far 🤪
