The Ship of Gold Exhibit that features The SS Central America “Ship of Gold”will dock with $40 million of sunken treasure at the February 22-24 2018 at the Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo. Held at the Long Beach Expo Center.
A little history on the SS Central America.
On 3 September 1857, 477 passengers and 101 crew left the Panamanian port of Colón, sailing for New York City under the command of William Lewis Herndon, with 10 short tons (9.1 t) of gold prospected during the California Gold Rush. After a stop in Havana, the ship continued north. On Sep 9th the ship was caught up in a Category 2 hurricane while off the coast of the Carolinas. By 11 September, the 105 mph (165 km/h) winds and heavy seas had shredded her sails. The SS Centeral America sank September 12, 1857.
The shipwreck site and the gold were discovered more than 7,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean in September 1988.
So back to the story.
The latest display will showcase many of the 3,100 gold coins, more than 10,000 silver coins and 45 gold ingots that have been held in secure vaults since they were retrieved from the ocean floor four years ago. All the coins are now being certified by PCGS “Professional Coin Grading Service” using the new PCGS Gold Shield™ service.
“The exhibit also includes a type of historic SS Central America items never before displayed: leather satchels filled with more than 1,000 ounces of 1857 California gold dust that were recovered from a safe on the sunken ship!,” exclaimed Manley. The gold dust is contained in the original pokes, hand-sewn sacks that remained sealed since 1857 or earlier.
The exhibit also includes two Australian gold sovereigns struck in Sydney in 1855 and 1856, and both are the finest known. There also are gold coins from France, including a Napoleon 20 francs, British gold sovereigns of Queen Victoria, Mexican eight escudos, Netherlands ducats, Dutch guldens and Peruvian gold.
So lots of gold to look at.

Gold Rush gold, what historical event that most exemplify the California gold rush without mentioning the wreck of the SS Central America. Just listened to @juniusmaltby 's live video and he's just itching to go see the exhibit.
Yes it sounds like it would be amazing to go to if you were close to that area. I love the history of the gold and silver " where its been, what it was used for first, and who had it". It being a sunken ship well that sold me onnthis story.
