The Perseverance Tavern in Cape Town was built in 1808. This pub is the oldest pub in South Africa and is doing business for over 200 years.
'The Percy' received its first liquor license in 1836, 28 years after it opened.
After all these years this pub also fondly known as "Persies" still remains one of Cape Town's most visited taverns, very popular place for visitors and a an all time favorite for the locals.
One of the previous owner's, Ian Sutcliffe, a Yorkshireman did a little refurbishment but as little as possible to retain this tavern's history and old world charm.
This tavern became very popular in the early 1800's when travelers that get off the ships at Cape Town's Castle, needed a cheap place to stay, that was close to the harbor.
When you came to Cape Town, South Africa be sure to visit this historical attraction.
