Review Gangstar 4 Vegas

in #steempress6 years ago

Gangstar is a game that is very inspired by Grand Theft Auto, it is no longer a secret. But if Gameloft does it better than the original game then who can protest is not it? Gangstar's latest series titled Gangstar Vegas is trying to bring this game to the next level with better graphics, more gameplay variations and also a larger 9x folder. But does this work or is this just the only bigger Gangstar series?

Gameplay

You will play as Jason, a street fighter who should have lost in a certain round but unintentionally won. Your boss, Frank, is very angry and wants your life as his salary. You run away and finally meet Vera, a woman who promises to help from Frank but in return you have to do a few things for her.

Gangstar Vegas is still the same as its predecessor and also the GTA series. You are free to go around the city to complete a mission / side challenge or you can also follow the main mission full of stories. The Gangstar Vegas approach is much more relaxed than GTA, for example you do not have to go to the search quarters to start, you can tap a search on the map and then automatically start your search. For me this is an interesting thing, sometimes I want to take a walk but there are times when I am lazy and remember the Gangstar Vegas map is big enough so this feature is very useful.

The quest we have to go through is quite diverse, ranging from a fight in a fighting arena, to stealing a helicopter and landing it on a roof of skyscrapers. Gangstar Vegas is a great game, so do not be afraid about the number and variety of quests you can go through. As an illustration I have been playing for about 5 hours and noted that I just completed 25% of this game.

But from the side of openness (considering it is open world game) I must say that GTA has a slightly better mechanics. In Gangstar Vegas we are a bit limited in how we complete a quest. For example if we were told to kill someone then we should approach that person first, but I have a sniper and can shoot him from a distance (no effect if I shoot from a distance).

Control is also one that must be considered in this game. Not bad indeed but also not too intuitive, especially for driving mode. Gameloft provides 4 different types of controls for each type of vehicle but I still feel that GTA has better control.

What I love from Gangstar Vegas is this game has many types of vehicles ranging from Harley motors, airplanes, steel tanks to motorboats. We are also given the opportunity to buy it and by paying some money then the vehicle will be sent to near our present location. Although you can steal any passing car but keep in mind that most of the cars that pass by are ordinary cars.

The leveling system and its weapon are also one of the most radiant compared to similar games. Gangstar Vegas has more than 20 skills that you can improve each time you level up. If you are the reckless type on the road then please raise your racing skill but if you are a fighter then please raise your fighting skill. This gives a bit of RPG elements where the character personalization becomes quite alive and different from other Gangstar players.

The funny thing about this game is that if you are not careful to cross then you can get hit by a car. They will not automatically hit the brakes and stop in front of you like in GTA games. If they've driven fast enough then you could have slammed and even died instantly.

Presentation

The game presentation aspect is my favorite part of Gangstar Vegas. First let's talk about the folder. Gameloft is very proud of Gangstar Vegas that is 9x bigger than the previous game and this is indeed something cool. The map used in this game is made as closely as possible to the actual city of Vegas. You can spend your time casually looking at the scenery from the crowded downtown to the residential population or even the beach. I can not figure out how Gameloft can make this so detailed for the size of mobile games.

The second part I love about the presentation is that the whole dialogue is done using a voice actor and is sometimes quite funny. Indeed the whole story is quite standard and some dialogue was already often spoken by most action films but it is always fun to see extra effort devoted to this game.

Pricing & IAP

Gangstar Vegas is priced at $ 6.99 with IAP in it. But this IAP is only an aid only and absolutely not mandatory. I myself now have 1 million dollars and I do not know what to use for what. Sometimes very expensive weapons such as sniper rifle can also drop from enemies so not everything should be purchased through the shop.

To earn money you will be given several options, you can join wild races, kill wanted man who roam the streets, steal cars and sell them, invest by buying a hotel and of course from the main quest. Besides, if you are an important member of a Gang then money is no problem.

Gangstar Vegas has a lottery system where you will get random items from a box. But to open this box you need a key that is also sold in the IAP store. But fortunately apart from the IAP store you will also get 1 key every day as well as from frequent play in the casino (I can spend 30 minutes to 1 hour in the casino to play mini game, much better than the many outstanding casino games on App Store).

Verdict

Gangstar Vegas is a great game and a thumbs-up effort from Gameloft to continue to bring the console experience to mobile. There are many things that need to be fixed like controls, alternative mission completions and quite a lot of bugs (mostly visual). But apart from that Gangstar Vegas is a fun game, and is not that what we are looking for in a game?
