When your ears feel alien to a game called Total War, you are not a fan of true war games. The game series that defines total and all-out war is a mandatory "subject" for hardcore gamers of strategy fans.
Everything about this game is made seriously, ranging from regional settings, government, rebellion, politics, technology, to the battle in the field that the number of troops can approach thousands of people! Shogun 2 resumes the tradition of the game series with some improvements that we think perfect the Total War series.

Shogun and Bushido
Shogun 2 narrowed his point of view into a battle between a landlord called Daimyo in Japan in medieval times. In fact, in the previous Total War (Empire and Napoleon), the number of countries and cultures involved is quite a lot so that the combat units that exist in the field are also diverse forms and functions.
In this game, the combat units are mostly the same. The difference, every Daimyo has a special unit that suits the expertise of the region. Typically, the unit is a better version than a regular unit with the same functionality.

Since each combat unit in this game has statistics that affect its combat power, special units with better capabilities will certainly be very useful on the battlefield. Of course with a note you can use it with the right strategy.
The main goal in this game is to make the Daimyo you control into Shogun. The Shogunate's position as the leader of all the imperial fighter powers of Japan is what all Daimyo dreams of. When compared, it may be almost the same as being president or chairman of the MPR.
Because of the higher position of the Shogun is the Japanese emperor and the place can be likened to a god. Therefore, the Shogun is the highest position for human in Japan at that time. It also makes the Shogun's position always at risk of combat and murder.

As we explained earlier, a Daimyo has a special ability that sets it apart from other Daimyo. For example, you can find Daimyo who has a seasoned archer and is able to manage the rice fields well.
There is also a more expert set up Ninja to attack the enemy through behind the scenes battle. All these abilities will shape your game style during this game play. Both in the battles, politics, economy, and buildings that exist in your province.
Other typical Japanese features brought in this game are Bushido and honor (Honor). The use of culture that highly upholds the spirit of war and honor makes Shogun 2 has an Honor system that must be considered well.
Source
A Daimyo can lose face when the troops he leads directly defeated in warfare, do not help other areas his friend when in need, loot the palace of the enemy he defeated, convert to Christianity, and let the honorable general has been smeared (eg often lost the war) not commit suicide (Seppuku).
Daimyo whose Honor has fallen will face a popular uprising and a general trying to kill him to take the position of Daimyo. This dangerous impact makes the Honor system can not be underestimated!
A strong area produces a strong army
Each Daimyo has a domain called the province. The province will surely be neighboring to other provinces trying to devour your wealth and your land of power! It is therefore the Daimyo's primary duty to defend his dominion from enemy attacks, develop his natural potential, organize the people, build facilities that strengthen his economy, regulate trade and politics. It's a lot of work! Well, that's the risk of being a leader in the bloodiest times in Japanese history!
Source
The game in the provincial setting mode has a high resemblance to the Civilization game. You can arrange freely (without time limit) all matters relating to the province. It can happen because at this time the game uses the form of Turn Based Strategy. So, all the players who took turns took turns. Each turn (Turn) is equal to a season in Japan.
This affects the position of your army when the turn ends. When your troops are in enemy territory when winter ends, they will be exposed to Attrition Damage. This damage will hurt the troops, but they are not fighting! This can be likened to disease attacks and moral decline due to cold in areas far from home. Watch the season before you start the battle!

Cities that represent the reign of a province have some fairly complex arrangements. First, you can arrange buildings in the city. The number of existing buildings is limited by building slots. So, you should not arbitrarily build something that does not fit the unique capabilities Daimyo is playing!
This arrangement requires an in-depth strategy on the economy and development of the city. Existing buildings can also be upgraded to generate more resources. However, you have to remember one thing. The building is not inside your castle! They are scattered in large provinces! So, the enemy can attack the building to weaken your economy if it is not well maintained!
Source
In addition to improving the economy, the buildings you own can also be used to build better combat units. Usually, buildings with higher functions require a lot of money and technology that supports it. The technology tree called Mastery of The Arts is divided into two types.
First, you can find Bushido; technology that develops combat forces forces by strengthening various aspects of unit statistics and opening up new unit types.
Secondly, you can choose technology that is useful for the growing needs of the area and behind-the-scenes assault called Way of Chi. This technology allows you to create better rice fields, open secret villages to train ninja, and secret police to maintain the order of the region. Technology and building upgrades take time (turn) to make it. So, the use of a good time also affects your dominance against the enemy.
The economy and status of all the important people in your province are also organized in this phase of the game. Arrangement of taxes and the manufacture of combat troops you should pay attention so as not to make your area poor.
If you set taxes too high, do not blame anyone if your people are rebelling! However, if the tax is too low, be prepared for the lack of money for the construction and recruitment of troops. Fortunately, this tax setting is determined through an easy-to-operate slider. In fact, you can use automated settings for taxes!
Source
Then, you have to be careful when recruiting troops. Total War is different from other strategy games that only need to think about the type of unit you build and the money to make it. In this game, you also have to think about the cost to take care of all units built!
Soldiers are also human beings who need salary, food, combat equipment maintenance! Before building troops, make sure you calculate in advance the cost of maintenance and compare with the income you get in every turn. Do not let you win in battle but can not build a province because its money runs out to pay troop salaries.
Source
The status of families and generals involved in your government should also receive more attention. Even the greatest Daimyo has a family that must be able to continue its power someday.
Therefore, you must have a strong son as the heir of your power. In addition, you can also marry off daughters with generals who are considered appropriate to keep the kingdom you build. In this section, you can also assign government positions to the appropriate general. Each of these positions will have a significant effect on the battle it undergoes. In addition, this action can also increase its loyalty to you.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing! Total War was a really cool title and a genre of it's own in a way.
I've actually been doing some "historical" gaming posts lately, covering noteworthy games released in certain years, just made one about 2000, which is when the first part was out. I remember it had really sweet graphics compared to other games from the same year.
Congratulations, this post was rewarded with a SteemGC Upvote!
