Pagoda in Taebongsa Temple, Iksan City

in #steempress5 years ago

What caught my eyes was a small stone Buddha statue in front of the pagoda.

His face was so impressive. In my view, this statue is one of the bests well express what the status of Zen is. His closing eye and the bowing head was so beautiful. It seemed to be made in recent time. Eventhough it was carved with the help of the machine, it was really attractive.

The pagoda in this temple was very unique in my view. It contains several characteristics of Goryeo and Chosun Dynasty together. So this characteristics made us estimate this pagoda had been built in the early period of Chosun Kingdom.

It was uncertain from where this pagoda had been brought. I thought it was a miracle that the shape of this pagoda was perfect. In many cases, I saw many pagodas were broken due to the uncautious care.

It is said that the relief of below photo was the sign of the characteristics of Chosun dynasty's pagoda building style. I couldn't notice this sign of Chosun Buddhist pagoda before.

It was a small temple, but it contained more interesting things to enjoy.

a small temple, a faded relief and the ravages of time.

We must not despise the day of small things, @slowwalker.

It's questionable whether one can take a sacred thing from its proper setting and expect it to still retain its meaning seen in a different light.

There is a sadness here - one wonders from whence the pagoda came and if respect for things dictates that's where it should have remained.

Such profound musings, my friend, on a time-stained stone and the broken ties to the past from whence it came.

I like that little Buddha actually it looks like he is sitting on lotus flower, meditating. I could not imagine how the statue is small in compare to the pagoda, even not visible at once. Thank you for taking close capture of details of carvings of stonework :)

Time is not kind to anyone, or anything for that matter. The erosion of time and change are such that the ancient messages are sometimes hard to decipher.

I am always amazed when I see ancient pieces such as these still standing. To have so much passed on that can be appreciated, is astonishing to me. To be honest, I am touched by the magnitude of devout people, seeking the truth in Asia. Firm beliefs, deeply entrenched in their lives.

Peace within ourselves.

Thank you for the wonderful job of surveying these ancient pieces of history. It is a journey of a lifetime and much work goes into this. Much appreciation for your efforts in educating us a bit on the culture.

As always, I wish you a most wonderful day!

It is funny how perspective works. From your first shot, I thought the stone Buddha appeared to me to be large, yet upon reading and seeing the other shot, I could see in fact that is was but a small Buddha. The stones themselves show us the story of time simply from their existence and appearance, they sure look old. Good post.
