- The first step, creating a box

The first step you have to go through is to prepare a location for cultivation, such as a maintenance box. About size, you can adjust the number of earthworms that will be raised or produced. The three ingredients you can choose for this maintenance box are;

  • Glass
  • Wood
  • Plastic

- Second step, land creation and habitat

To make the location of earthworm growth, you can follow the steps below;

  • Combine compost fertilizer, agricultural waste, with market waste and enter up to 15 cm in thickness.
  • Add water, then stir until blended (make sure the level of excitement)
  • Leave for 4 weeks to make fermentation happen
  • Mix 30% animal waste and 70% live media
  • 1% lime to increase neutrality of acidity or pH (ideal 6 - 7.2)
  • Make sure the humidity level is 15 to 30% and the temperature is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius
  • Enter the earthworm (the weight is like the live media that is inserted)
  • Cover the surface of the media with plastic or sacks, or other materials so as not to dry

- The third step, food for earthworms

In order for this earthworm cultivation method to develop rapidly, you can prepare feed for earthworms, including;

  • Goat droppings
  • Chicken manure
  • Cow manure, etc.

The size is the same as the weight of the earthworm that is inserted. And make sure that the above feed is used as powder or pulp before putting it in the maintenance box.

- The fourth step, avoid pests

You need to take anticipatory measures by setting up a wire mesh as a cover for a hole or maintenance box. This will protect the worms from ants, centipedes, flies, beetles, birds, or other pests that can damage the results of your livestock. In addition, wire netting also has a role as a place for air circulation.

- Step five, harvest

Harvesting is done after 2.5 months to 3 months. The sign is when you see lots of worm eggs and worm droppings. Harvesting can be done by the method below;

  • Use light sources to lure worms up or surfaces
  • Turn the media alive and take worms
  • Separation of adult worms and worm eggs needs to be done
  • Worm eggs are placed in live media to hatch again for about 2 to 3 weeks.
