The Cinematic Griot Collective brings to you an outdoor film screening under the stars in the Historical African American Community of Idlewild, Michigan. The Idlewild International Film Festival 2019 will highlight WOMEN filmmakers telling vibrant and unique stories. The entire weekend will be filled with short films, tours of the Island, art, music, food, and fun!

Featuring carefully selected films, documentaries and music videos, presented to you from all over the world! This festival will also include an art and photography exhibit from the natives and neighboring communities entitled “Voices of Idlewild”.

Idlewild was once considered the Black Eden of Michigan, and is known for its beautiful beaches, lakes, and wildlife. During the highlight of its popularity, travelers from all over the country would go to experience its exciting night-lifewhich often featured notable entertainers such as legends like Lena Horne, Four Tops and Della Reese.

After segregation ended, more entertainers of color were free to perform anywhere in the country and Idlewild became somewhat forgotten. Over the last two decades, new business and venues have grown in this community and in 2019 we invite you to join us in making history by attending the first Idlewild International Film Festival.
