Steemit Inc determined that the account broke their TOS. It's been 'hidden' on Condenser (the Steemit.com website). https://github.com/steemit/condenser/commit/4d40cf0c08cd5a59255557b0f73d84bef4dc2b99
It is still part of the Steem blockchain. https://steemd.com/@thedarkoverlord

I am really curious about what happened there, behind the scenes. What would need to happen for Steemit Inc to take the time and effort to remove an account from the frontend. Very interesting stuff.
Yea, me too, and how the rules about this sort of issues for different frontends differ.
But you know what really bugs me? Lack of transparency. One of the things we do at Utopian is have a weekly post summarizing our activities in the past week to keep the community in the loop. If Steemit inc had someone to write a weekly post like that, they could include instances like this along with some insights and explanations for the rest of us to ensure we're not erased of the frontend tomorrow, with a nice link to the TOS (that I am quite sure very few of us actually bothered to read).
I just double checked Github. It was a pull request that had no additional discussion around it and nothing else visible. If I had to guess, I'd say it's to prevent Steemit's SEO from making these posts the first Google search result and thus preventing legal action. That is purely my guess.
It would be great to hear from Steemit.Inc, as most of users like me probably don’t check github that often. But ofc I don’t think they’d say anything about it.

I don't count on them doing that. A company that doesn't even give explanation for a last-minute cancelled live session...
Count? No. But I honestly fail to understand why they don't do it. I mean, there's work involved in collecting the information and publishing it, but the reward (community trust and outward transparency) along with the financial potential of its impact on the reputation of the blockchain are so bloody worth it.
The explanation given "behind the scenes" was that Ned got ill. I get it, I've canceled shit due to illness a lot, being chronically ill. But I do tend to reschedule them ASAP.

WOW.... I assume Steemit was confronted legally being the figure head for the blockchain shows that the blockchain may be decentralized but the projects on top of may not be!
This will cause some backlash, I was stoked to see them come to Steem.... wonder if it has anything to do with recent blockchain strains 🤔

That's always been the case though. Just move over to another frontend and continue like nothing happened, that's censorship resistance.

steemit is very detailed in censoring every account and its activities, but about deletion I still don't understand
It is more of « hidden » on steemit but the account still exists on Steem.

Hi @joythewanderer, do you think the other frontends will also take down their page? I know it'll remain on the blockchain but removing visibility from the apps is still pretty strong censorship.

Thanks for highlighting steemit is not steem. I guess censorship resistance may be really tested over the next few years. Humanity is reaching a bifurcation point. We must either be read to handle the truth or get ready for a new dark age...
