Lobi Stars, Solomon Ogbeide and Samuel Ahmadu for Nigeria Pitch Awards 2018/19

Lobi stars football club of Makurdi who are 4th with 23 points on the Nigerian professional league standings group A have been nominated for the 6th edition of the Nigeria pitch awards.

The nomination was announced by the organizers, Matchmakers Consult International Ltd at a media briefing in Ibis Hotel in Lagos on Thursday.

Akwa United who are 1st in group B with 28 points and Enugu Rangers who seats 1st with 31 points in the same group with Lobi Stars will join Lobi stars to vie for the club of the year award.

In the Coach of the Year category, Thomas Dennerby (Super Falcons) and Gbenga Ogunbote (Enugu Rangers) will contend with Solomon Ogbeide of Lobi stars football club of Makurdi.

Samuel Ahmadu of Goal.com will have Tobi Adepoju of naijafootballplus.com and Kunle Solaja of sportsvillagesquare.com to contend with for the Online Football Journalist of the Year.

The President of Nigeria Pitch Awards, Shina Philips stated that organizers were working on a plan to overhaul the organization specifically with a view to reducing the number of categories.

“We are planning a major reorganization with respect to the number of categories we have,” Philips said.

“By next edition, we will certainly have fewer categories. We believe this will make it easier for our voters to complete their votes.

We want to remain resolute in our commitment to sustain the Nigeria Pitch Awards.
In spite of the harsh economic situation and the increasing difficulty in convincing sponsors because of the current state of the economy, we will continue to turn up each year to provide platform for the reward of excellence in our football.
We are confident that the future will become brighter and our football will be better for it.

MVP in the NWFL: Anam Imo (Nasarawa Amazons), Evelyn Nwabuoku (Rivers Angels) and Rasheedat Ajibade (Avaldsnes IL)

Queen of the Pitch: Francisca Ordega of Shanghai Shengli, Super Falcon new sensation, Rasheedat Ajibade Avaldsnes and Oshoala

Striker of the Year: Shanghai Shenhua striker Ahmed Musa, Junior Lokosa of Kano Pillars.

Midfielder of the Year : Oghenekaro Etebo of Stoke City, Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City and the only Gunner (Arsenal FC) in the Super Eagles, Alex Iwobi.

Goalkeeper of the Year: Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Katsina United FC, Theophilus Afelokhai of Enyimba F.C and Francis Odinaka Uzoho of Deportivo La Coruna/Anorthosis Famagusta.

Defender of the Year: Brighton and Hove Albion FC defender, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong of Udinese FC and Kenneth Omeruo of Leganés FC.

Club of the Year: Akwa United, Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars

National Team of the Year: Super Sand Eagles, Super Falcons and Super Eagles

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 6th edition of the award was designed to recognise those who stand out in a particular season.
