The kind act:

Kindness acts can sometimes be obvious. Kindness acts can also be obscure. Today, we'll look at the unseen kindness of volunteers at various COVID-19 vaccine trials like Jennifer Haller. We don't often see them. Yet, their sacrifice is too enormous to discount.

As the world races to produce a vaccine to combat COVID-19, their job is to find volunteers for vaccine trials. There are many risks and unpredictable side effects involved. Thus, it's tough to find volunteers who want to be injected with an unknown substance.

That's why people like Jennifer Haller are such heroes of our time.

Jennifer has been a supporter of clinical research's supporter for a long time.

When her son was born, she immediately entered him into the University of Washington's study database. That way, whenever they need compatible participants, they would be ready to help.

Jennifer explained her eagerness like this: "I have a lot of privilege in my life. I recognize the privilege I have and I want to be able to use it to help others. [...] I'm pretty well taken care of here. And so let me do this to help out."

After going through the paperwork and exam, Jennifer Haller was eligible to test out the vaccine. To date, she hasn't experienced any side effects or horrible symptoms.

Her kind act was simple but a dangerous one. She didn't know how the test would span out. But she did it anyway, excited to contribute to a bigger cause than herself.

What can you do today to show kindness?

Anything you do that benefits someone, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, is good enough.
