Travel Inspiration - Excuses Why You Can't Travel

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Ever wanted to travel the world but second-guessed yourself? How many excuses can you come up with when you think, “I want to travel the world?” I bet you’ve used up all the fingers in your hands for the count. You’re not alone, and when it comes to long-term travel, everyone has a dozen reasons why they can’t. For people who have never traveled longer than a month they have some misconceptions about Round-The-World travel and what makes it not possible. Here we'll go over the reasons you can't just pull the trigger and take that leap.

1 – The Gap in my Resume Will Put an End to my Career

An afternoon view of Lake Ohrid, Macedonia.

This is not the 50s through 80s anymore. There has been a massive paradigm shift in thinking. It is now very common to have quality employees with gaps or massive gaps in their CVs and Resumes. Even hiring managers and potential employers have taken long sabbaticals. The crash in 2008 has left a lot of quality employees with massive gaps in their resumes as well, and they are back in the saddle. You’re not alone.

So let’s pretend you’re a hiring manager. You have two choices in potential hires. One has been collecting unemployment the other traveled around the world collecting experiences and gaining worldly knowledge. One has been sitting at home sucking up on the welfare system while the other may have volunteered to help starving children in Africa, learned a new language, or learned about new cultures that you have never even heard about. Who then would you hire?

The trick with any interviews is to turn a potential negative into a positive. Talk about what you've learned. Talk about how your travels made you a better person and what those experiences you gained traveling brings to the table. Turn potential employers into believers.

Another excuse is that I have other important things to do!

Then travel isn't for you ;)))

Haha I love the comment you made about being American! I had a couple of friends tell me that I was the only American that they liked but we can change that. Ultimately people judge you for your actions not your nationality. But I agree avoid the politics. Had to learn that lesson the hard way.

Hey, you actually clicked on the link and read part of the article? LOL! OK! There's hope for this platform yet! My 100% upvote probably isn't enough. But. check your wallet out. Thanks, seriously. From me :)

No problem man! I'm always happy to support people who are trying to get others to travel. Especially since you're crushing the stereotype that it's a young person's game. Keep killing it!

I really love travelling but as a student, the main problem is money. I have traveled places like Thailand, Japan and Korean but it was such an amazing experience.Your article can relate to a lot of people including me.

I also want to travel the world.. :(

My excuse is that I don't have time!

Travel is a place to change everything, why I say that, because I know, the trip will open a new channel in our brain network by seeing and feeling the difference from every place we visit, have you ever felt that change, I'm sure you never felt it, if you don't feel it means your sense of sensitivity is a little disturbed.

What hear from most of my friends is that they need to save for retirement. They believe that when they retire they will have enough saved that they can then go travel without the worry of having enough. The problem with that philosophy is that you never know what is going to happen in life especially when it comes to finances. You can save, save, save only to watch your investments continually lose money and then you never get to travel. I believe travel as much as you can when you are young, save as much as you can a long the way and don't have any regrets later in life when/ if you can make it all happen. Travel now and have the memories when you get older. I have been to 65 countries so far but only 10 states in my home country. When I get old, I will travel more there.

I agree....travel when you can. Dont wait until you retire. A couple of reasons, Your health may not allow you to. Its hard to travel on a limited retirement income. You may not want to then. Do it while you can and you have an income( sometimes 2) and the energy. I have spent a lot of money in my day on travel, and have not regretted a penny ( I guess in Canada its a nickle) So do it now folks...just do it...

Simple choice, invest on your life/memories/love or invest more in your 401k. There has to be a balance there somewhere but here's one fact that everyone should really take into cosideration (seriously). Money can't buy time. Period.

i used to fear what people abroad would think of me then I grew out of it and now I travel all the time

Love this post.
Nailed all the excuses. Some I cannot relate with (as I don't have kids) but I feel all these excuses are exactly what I hear from most people that don't seize these opportunities.
I fly home from Canada to UK for just 3 days....not ideal but when Time is a factor I take what I can get. How many people do you think told me they would never do a trip like that for 3 days next month......those are the people that never leave their town!!
Great read.

Great post! Another thing you can do if you don't have time is to simply look for an overseas job. I have worked in Asia, the Middle East, and now Africa. My extended weekend trips are often to different countries.

Travel is great, but you need money to live. Working online is the best thing for independence and not being employed all your life, it is something we can learn from the millennials.

you are great friend, thank you very much

Traveling the world for work is one thing but now I'm ready to do it for fun. This is inspiring to do so.

What restricts us in the way is time and money. Travel is very important but unfortunately not the most important. We have family, children and work, and the money does not lie on the streets, you have to work hard.

Brilliant photos, very good!

I love every single point that you make, I especially loved your point of waking up from the American dream and living in the reality. This post totally encompasses everything I feel is important in travelling and why anyone who has the opportunity to travel should grab on to it with both hands! thank you for the post I thoroughly enjoyed it.

in this era people do not have time ti travel

I agree with you. But, the point of my view, nowadays travel is annoying in some cases. But I hope you have the time enough if you can manage. Thanks for your post.
