Today: Episode #36

SteemPeak.com -> The Replacement for Steemit.com

Wow, episode 36. It's wild to be back here after a 4 month break from this particular project, because I felt I had sort of run out of tips to give out. Of course there are all sorts of new things going on with the STEEM blockchain, and many things coming up in the next few weeks/months (SMTs & HF20 for example), so it felt like I should probably get this going again, and I knew exactly what the next episode needed to be: @SteemPeak

SteemPeak.com is a relatively new front-end site for the STEEM blockchain, similar to steemit.com & busy.org, but better than either one, in my opinion. I want to give a shout-out to @TheMarkyMark for bringing this site to my attention 3 weeks ago with his post Why are you still using Steemit.com?

SteemPeak uses SteemConnect to log-in, same as @dTube, @dSound, and many others, offering as much security as we can really expect at this point. Basically, the site includes everything that steemit.com does, plus back-end features most of us have been using SteemD, SteemDB, and SteemWorld for, and much more. Here are some of the big highlights of SteemPeak in my opinion:

  • The ability to hide re-steems when looking at someone's blog!!
  • The ability to schedule posts
  • The ability to save multiple drafts & templates for posts
  • No mandatory "beneficiary" (most third-party sites take a cut of any content published through them)
  • Choose-Your-Own-Beneficiary: You can set any account to receive a cut of any post you make
  • You can easily see what % someone voted with, and how much $ that added to a post
  • When choosing a voting weight %, you can see beforehand how much $ it will add
  • NOTIFICATIONS!!! You actually get a little red number that shows if you have new votes, comments, rewards, etc.
  • 2 different options for how to look at blogs (single column vs 4 column)

There's a whole lot more too, and honestly if you're already using Steemit.com, you don't have to learn much of anything new, you just have more options. Simply connect your STEEM account via SteemConnect and you're good to go!

Some Feature Examples, with Screen Shots

Here's what a blog-roll looks like with the tiled view, and you can see in the upper left the option to hide resteems

Here's a look at the wallet's transaction history, where you have the option to filter by transaction type (including hiding all the 0.001 transactions we all get spammed with)

This is definitely the best activity log I've found anywhere, not only giving you the whole list of things done by your account (like Steem- D, DB, and World), but letting you filter those activities as well, on the fly.

When you go to the topics/tags page, not only can you look at a topic and sort by value or newness, but you can save topics as favorites, and access them with one click!

How long have you been waiting for notifications? I'd say it's been about 26 months for me... The act of keeping up with incoming comments on steemit.com has been painstaking, and I often go back to look at a post and find a wonderful comment I never noticed... No more!

Create a new post (which will automatically be saved as a draft as soon as you add anything to it), pull up all your current drafts, or make a new post from one of your templates... OPTIONS!

Whenever you're working on a post, you'll see options at the bottom to schedule, save as draft/template, or publish. Here's a look at the scheduling pop-up.

Here's what it looks like when you hover over the number of upvotes that a post has, making it easy to see who is supporting, how much they're supporting, and what it gives you. This one has been quite the boon when working with @TribeSteemUp votes for articles that get more than usual, or when someone gets shorted due to a curation trail follow.

Here's a glimpse at the Dashboard, where you can see a lot of the information that used to require pulling up another site like SteemD & SteemWorld.

I love Steempeak! To break the habit of going back to Steemit all the time I forced myself to use Steempeak for one full day. It has not stayed at one day after all. It is better in every regard to Steemit.

Haha, nice! I definitely agree, it seems to be an improvement in every way. I love that it automatically recognizes steemit.com links as steempeak links too, so clicking on links in articles isn't navigating me away all the time.

Only real downside I've found is that neither FB or Discord show a preview image when using a SteemPeak link.

I actually am working with a witness on a project that should help with this issue as well as show steemit upvote value dynamically on FB posts and more.

WOOHOO! That would be so awesome!

I'm newer to the steem platform but learning every day; this series looks AWESOME and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I think I'll chip away at these tips daily.

I've never heard of Steempeak but I really like the schedule post feature. As for looking at activity I'm currently using SteemWorld which is pretty decent in my estimation.

Thanks for sharing!

Awesome, hope they help you on your journey :-)

I've been using SteemWorld for all the back-end stuff for some time myself, but it sure is nice to have everything in one place instead of needing multiple tabs just to do my STEEMing.

Wow!!!! I have been wanting the schedule feature so badly. Curious if they have an app planned. I use steepshot right now but there are definitely some hinderences, like I can not put spaces in between paragraphs, and often my uploads fail, with no saved drafts. I do all my work exclusively from my phone, so I look forward to the Steem block chain developing more functional apps. Thanks for this tip, ai will investigate them later today!

I'm not sure if they're planning an app for iThings/Android, but you could probably ask :-) Give it a shot on your phone (try both Firefox & Chrome) and see if either of them work for ya, that's how I do a lot of my STEEMing.

Thanks for the recommendation @kennyskitchen - I'll check it out. 👍

You're very welcome! Hope you enjoy the view from the peak :-P

The functionality looks amazing, looking forward to trying it out and resteemed!! Thanks for sharing

Definitely worth resteeming

oh wow.. what do you konw! will check this out! i never liked busy.org for some reason.. thank you !

I think you'll really like this one brother!

kennyskitchen
thanks for sharing this...really helpful for steemian and specially those who are new in steemit....I am also in search of such kind of posts....

Welcome to the platform! Hope you enjoy your stay here, and hopefully this series will help :-)

What a wonderful series you have going on here. I just resteemed it so I can go back and check out all the past post to help me out on my learning curve with Steemit1 I just tried out Steempeak the other day for the first time. Thanks for the great tips!

Thanks, it's definitely been a fun one to create :-) Let me know if any other questions come up for you and maybe I can help.

I clicked @kennyskitchen expecting food related content but finding none. I'm a bit confused. 🤔

I've put out a couple dozen recipes over the years, and lots of content about mindful eating, but food definitely isn't the main focus of my blog. I spent the last 3.5 years traveling, with a large part of my time spent cooking for transformational festivals, conferences, retreats, etc. using the name Kenny's Conscious Kitchen, but that wouldn't fit as a STEEM user name.

excellent post, and i See mah face 😬😬🦅

if i can actually get this going it looks like fun. ive had a few errors and working with the kinks. it might be chrome related 🙈
