Before we proceed, let me define what does "Farming" mean. Farming is refer to a tactic where the player perform repetitive action to gain xp, resources, currency and points. However, in order to collect those items, player will continuously attack and kills the enemies.
These tactic result to some confusion and most of the time lost valued players.
Based on the definition, the question and above scenario "Is farming really all that bad"? Please leave you're comment below.

For me personally fighting other players is part of what I don't like in browser games. So obviously I am no fan of farming. It some point you become either paranoid, send your fleet away every night and do other stuff. And then for me it stops being a game and starts being work. And well normally work pays good ;)
This is the real balance that I don't think many games have got right so far. They all end up like a chore. Survival games a perfect example of this, dayz or Ark survival evolved for instance you spend more time running around gathering resources, which can be fun at the start, then actual objective completing or interacting with other players. It turns from fun to the point where I can't even think about playing the game without feeling nauseous
It is not bad. People do not know what game means. Here we have some real enemies and you have to create alliances etc. It is not a candy, sweeety, lovely game but real one. You have to cooperate with others or you will die.

Depends, I don't think it's bad at most situations... As long as it doesn't take players time from more important things that is. I consider farming/gridning as only part of process, the most boring part of an experience... If it was the whole processor (Money leeching Mobile Games) I'd suggest playing another game.
Farming game items to earn money (real or in-game) of MMO isn't that bad too. In some cases it might be the only job the player can do (and excel at) to earn their living (In China or in a cheap country).
But farming should be the choice of the player, it's boring and kind of chore... So unless you have a clear goal when you start farming in games (and in MMO case: not because someone told you you can earn money that way) that way you can see how close you are from getting to your goal.
And can force yourself to stop and when you know it's enough!!
