howdy!
so here we go on the way to get this little bike started and back to life.
taking it all apart, i found the drive train was very worn. kinda nerve racking because this things last for a long time and could be signs of abuse.
anyhow, here we go. check out that sprocket vs. the new one!
also cleaned really well the rear tire and put a new rear sprocket, chain and inner tube!
and out for a quick photoshoot
Looks like you replaced the flywheel cover as well. I have never seen that type of countersprocket you used. Maybe it was made for a couple of bikes hence the extra holes?
I just cleaned and repainted the flywheel cover to make it look a little better. Time, dirt makes the aluminum look pretty bad.the sprocket I got is the JT replacement for the OEM sprocket. The extra hole is for a counter torque fastener, better than the stock option in my opinion.
The wear on that sprocket is not unusual, only if it occurs really quickly. Living in a dry dusty place it was not unusual for me to replace the chain every 3000 miles, and a sprocket(s) every 6000 miles on Bikes above 600cc's. On the lower displacement bikes, these items will last longer, but seeing the age of this Bike and lack of odometer, there is no telling how long it's been. Also, the front sprocket will often wear much faster than the rear as it is much smaller. Remember that when you ride in the dirt, you are providing that chain with fresh abrasive (sand) all the time. Greetings!
@onnovocks thanks for the feedback. Definitely agree with the unknown milage, front wearing faster and the extra abrasive sandy particle.
Don't think I will be riding this little bike in the dirt after this rebuild :)
She's been rode hard but still allot of fun!
Sadly not by me :( hahahaha
