RE: Good-bye Steemmonsters, I've Had Enough With This Last Tourney Twist (HAPPILY UPDATED!)

in #steemmonsters6 years ago

There are issues it sounds like both methods may have. For example. No fee and someone sends in 100 bots to check in and to just ruin the experience by doing nothing. They just want to ruin the experience for example.

On one side you have that and the other side having a fee is ruining the experience for you.

So what's the creative solution that solves both of those. Find that answer and we're on to something.

Sort:

Perhaps one option is ...
Make steemmonsters run LESS tournaments with an understanding they may be big long tournaments since anyone and everyone can enter for free.
1 daily one and 1 weekly one

Then let other people create other tournaments where they can do things like work at being a gatekeeper.

I know peakmonsters is willing to do tournaments. Some open to everyone and some we'd like to be just for our users.

Also i think round robin tournaments are even more exciting because they can possibly be constructed where they can last a full day or a week long or even a month and people can just play as they go. Maybe they're even better than the seasonal format we have now.

Once that tech is created I'd switch to steemmonsters itself ONLY running those types of tournaments perhaps. And maybe the top 16 for round robin go into a bracket style.

Anyway those are some of my solution ideas.
May not solve everything but it's a start of a discussion.

I am a big fan of this solution... I think for the "pool" matches they should be special... to address the timezone issue, just rotate the times in 3 separate tourneys ... so say 10 am 6 pm and 2 am... and once every 3 weeks everyone would be able to enter and no one would have complaints...

And if they want to have "pay for play" matches, I'm all for it... Just not with money that was promised to be used in the pool for these special "pool tourneys"...

And ps, I was planning on hosting my own too... I think it is a huge mistake to deviate with the original plan as you suggested (once a week for big one and once a day for small ones)... And I also wouldn't mind people staying in their leagues.

Good suggestion, I hope you get traction with it... Anything to stop them from breaking their word on the prize pool distribution would be helpful.

Yeah being able to play tournaments at your leisure was kind of the initial brilliant idea of SteemMonsters and I think there's still a path there... and I think it's an easy path.

Play your games in the morning, go to work, see how it all plays out! It would be awesome!

I'm in agreement with you for sure. Hope you make some headway.

awesome... I'm going to resteem it right now. I'm glad to see you working on this, great job @jarvie :)

If those 100 bots buy the requisite cards, then why can't they play? Again, I 'm saying that the bronze should play the bronze and the diamond play the diamond. God bless the guy that buys enough cards to have 100 teams in the diamond level in the season rewards program. We will all be rich if that were to happen.

I'm trying to point out that the argument that we will have 8000 players is a strawman argument, there are many ways to stop that from happening and by tying them to the leagues that is the easiest way.

Another way would be to "block" any account that you "deem" to abuse the system... There are tons of workarounds, but charging a fee (as mentioned in my long reply above) is taking money and giving it to those that are willing to pay it. That isn't right and I would find a hard time believing that you feel I shouldn't be able to play based on my cards bought. And don't tell me I should just pay the fee, because it isn't an option because I won't as its not something I was ever told about as a requirement to enter these tourneys.

If they want to stop the fees until such time as a working group can come up with a feasible solution to the 8000 people problem, then I'm all for that. I would even be happy to be a part of finding an alternative solution to charging fees to get what I have already been promised access to.

How do you like their dark crystals solution... to be honest I know very little about it.

I don't either... I understand the general concept, but if it is a requirement based on trust, then this issue is an even bigger deal here. I know I've made the point, but its hard to stress how important trust is in making this game go (or any venture that uses alt currencies as payouts). I'll figure it out though if we get by this issue successfully. (a big if)

My vp is down to 37% so I'm going to stop some upvotes for a bit, but definitely appreciate the convos :D

From my understanding the DEC will be in game currency that you can buy or earn via regular play. These DEC (Dark Crystals) can be used as buy in tokens for games. I could be wrong on this but the little I have read about them, that was my understanding.

Awesome @rentmoney, thanks for explanation!
