In two days, I will be on the Steem platform for a year. Why not writing about it then? Well, because I will not be dedicating a lot of time on the blockchain while spending time with family.
At the time of writing, these are the stats related to my account.
Thank you SteemWorld.org for being one of the only useful things on the chain that should have been a default feature in the first place.
Yeah, I have bought some Steem, though not a lot. I have used bots here and there for profit. Anyone who tells you they did it for promotion at a loss is selling you something.
I post twice, or sometimes trice a week these days. I am not exactly bored enough to commit to full-time jerking of my curation trails. For me, I make way more money doing an extra shift at the hospital than scrounging around for $1 per post. Can't say the same for those who live in less-developed countries, though.
I often wonder about the impact of the earnings for those folks. Crypto to fiat exchanges are not the most user friendly experience as it stands. It makes one think if all the so-called poorer "content creators" are some hustlers in disguise. If I am in destitute situation, getting money off Steem (or having internet for that matter) might be low on my priority list.
I was given the impression that they have trouble getting basic goods in their dire state. Somehow, magical internet money will resolve that. It seemed to make more sense to me when projects like @youarehope delivered goods to the needy. Instead, we see various "curation initiatives" boasting about how they are helping. Helping by throwing upvotes. Could definitely use a piece of bread, or some shoes, before they need that $$$ mark.
I was not aware you could eat gold, let alone crypto.
Steem is truly an enigma!
It is a place where the vast majority of senile old persons think they are some sort of full time bloggers.
In fact, they think they are some sort of profession content creators. Not only that, they seem to believe that they are entitled to their pending payouts
. No flags they said! Well, I think your writings are boring as hell, and nobody comments on them for a reason. How do those curation votes look now?
It is a place where amateur economists think that bid bots cause more people to buy and hold Steem.
Last time I checked, you would only need to buy 200-500 Steem and bid away. As long as no one flags you, you could sell the margin. I have never seen those who practice that approach power up. You would always see they are in a state of powering down.
How is that inflation looking? Your 10-20% profit usually comes with a $100-200 inflation after payout.
Here is a hint: Steem is main utility seems to be funding your other crypto ventures or cash out in fiat. There is a reason why there are so many farming operations here on the chain. You can multiply the current BTC price by 5 and Steem would not be much over $2 in comparison.
It is a place where talents use their spare time to build.
Is it bad that every time something new pops in the space, I ask myself: is there a better existing option?
I got into crypto in 2012. I have yet to experience a spectacular dapp. For everything there is on a blockchain, there is always something else easier (or better). But, the space is young they said! Bruh, this place is still at least two years behind roadmap. There is no celebration to be had...at all.
It is a place where drama sells.
If Steem has anything going for it, it is the drama. The plot will give you a good laugh. It will leave you scratching your head. You will wonder why a place with so much potential, yet so insignificant, could be worth over $123M.
Let us not even get started on the personalities we have on the platform. That alone deserves an entire series. Five seasons and a movie, in fact!
What? Did you think I would end on a cute and fuzzy note about how much I love Steem? Get real.
Good ol' Imgflip saved me again!
I came as a normal user. I find myself involved in more things than I ever cared to be part of. However, it is interesting to see how everything will evolve. Whether Steem soars to the moon or burns to the ground, the plot twists will never stop.
Welcome to @ned's world. You are just a gear in the @blocktrades' machine. I would be lying if I say I did not encounter some cool dudes on the platform. Sadly, these are dudes I will never meet.
Where are you from?
From the States.
Cucamonga Robot Farm?
You know i am an optimist. The future of crypto is uncertain, but I still see potential in Steem. No system is perfect and you have to work with what you have. There are plenty of people exploiting it, but also many who want to make it work. I was on a radio show last night with other Steemians and about 50 listening. They obviously care. I was also at a meetup this week of about 16 people. There are similar events happening around the world.
It could all turn to shit, but I will have had a good time. Its not just about money.
Now, if the rest of the 99% will get that message.
I'm not sure it's that bad. We see too much of the abuse, but there's lots of good stuff. I'm seeking that out for now
I just need to stop seeing stuff like this, and I will probably see more good on the chain.
@iamthegray, @artgirl are the main ones I know and have interacted with both create content and post with a focus on earning. Nothing wrong with it, I am also pretty sure that if there comes a means to earn even simpler then it should be taken. Why I mention them is because they are the only example other than @jimramones where the crypto seems to make a big difference and they have put in the work. Heck even putting in the work is a bit grandeur sounding if I think anything steem. Haha almost as though that shit matter, there is a mental shift from what gets sold "blogging" to what you need to do to accomplish anything power related on the platform. Cognitive dissonance at it's best, my head twitches every now and then as I try to deal with some of my own "steem ethics"
Anyway that was a lot of text, blah blah blah. Congrats on 1 year even if for the REKT :) So long as they don't completely crash the damn coin then seeing how it will shape will be cool or getting to a point where we can shape things our own will also be cool, even if the coin crashes I for one have learnt a lot and might push for smaller inter-op decentralized content networks or something. Then again I have no skin in the game :)

I'm starting to believe this place is toxic. lol
But yes, thanks for the tip and the perspective. I have a little bit of skin in the game, but I'm okay with Steem heading to nothing. It's acceptable loss.
Congratulations on reaching one year @enforcer48! I've officially reached that milestone too a few months back.
However I can say my true full year anniversary was arnd January this year when I started really being active. It seems almost exactly after one year I am not as active here anymore because I got busy with real estate work. 😅
Finally got that break into this career again last year so I'm seeing how it goes. Steemit actually helped me earn money for the whole year I've been on here. It's a lot better because of the exchange rate and crypto conversion. 😊 Anything more than P1 after conversion is more than enough for me and others like me. Not my only source of income as I also write on another site plus other sites but I love how we can earn online with enough effort and if you know how to play the game. 😉 (Not bidbots)
Now in real life though, it's much harder to play the game if you know what I mean. 😁
Well, good on ya! There aren't that many who actually treat their online ventures as a full-time profession and behave as such.
So many act like it, but they probably aren't putting in the times and effort like you do.
Thanks. 😊 I don't think it was a full-time profession as you call it but maybe it is because I was online all the time then. 😂 I feel like I wasn't being serious about it yet. 😅
When I started accepting writing jobs that's when I felt like I was seriously working as a full time writer. When I blog or write abt the things I like it didn't really feel like a full time thing. Just me writing whatever I wanted to share with the world, not really working at all. 🤔 Weird but that's how I see it.
For a month last yr though I did put in my effort and really worked on writing. My goal was to be #1 on the leaderboard of another blogging/earning site and I did reach it. 😁 Whew that burned me out though, and so I wasn't working and writing as hard after that. 😂

Birthday, yes! Happy? Hmm...we shall see.
We've done what we can with @YouAreHOPE and thank you for the shoutout and support. It's been good calling you a friend this past year and I plan to continue that friendship into the future. So happy steemday, for what it's currently worth, which isn't much.

Likewise, Cork.
Thanks for the Steemday wish!
I don't think I've read anything quite so pessimistic after weekly gains of 20%+ 🤔 this post is negative enough to single handedly give the steem bulls a stroke 😂
Congrats on a year.

I'm just a realist.
Still haven't touched 5% of ATH yet. :v
Maximum opportunity 😉

Great post....
Steem has a lot of problems true, but most of the world's population are at least one of stupid, greedy or desperate for attention and most of those a combination of two or more of the above.
I.E Plenty of scope for mass adoption down the road and THAT my friend meens steem is worth a gamble... it feeds off greed etc. after all.
Just fix yer powerdown point and stick to it!
I guess we will find out in a few years.
