Square photographs can be manipulated in GIMP or photoshop to make images called small planets. I recently took some photos of the local school and sent them into orbit as small planets
For small planets to succeed it is good to have a straight horizon and a uniform skyline. A grey snowy day is an excellent choice since there is less post processing to get rid of joining lines and unmatched clouds or trees.
Winter provides just the right conditions to be able to make small planets. I have made a few of the local school and stitched them together in a video so you can see the original photo and also the transformed polar coordinates. You can view it on Dtube at this URL
There is something hobbit like the buildings once they have been made into small planets.
