What do I wear?
Most of the time, the question in this post's header note pulls us into an acute transfix which may be immediately followed by a battle of choices, one which may not end so well.
On this premise, I dimmed it necessary to give a tip or two that may come in handy when presented with such situation.
Here's a quick preview of all I'll say on this post
- A Quick Rundown
- The Occasion
- Colour Map
- You
Quick Rundown
You can have anything you want if you DRESS for it.
-Edith Head
Clothing is a form of expression, there are hints of who you are in what you wear.
-Marc Jacobs
Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak
-Rachael Zoe
These are some words that sets the foundation for this article. But before I go on, let me define Dress Sense as will be used in context.
DRESS SENSE is a defined perception of self expression using clothes that suits you.
The key words are expression, clothes and suits you. Keep those words in mind as you read on.
The Occasion
Keeping it simple is key in this business cut the ambiguity of clothing lines and look for what goes best.
"Where am I going to?" Is a question whose importance cannot be overemphasised but let me dive into an emphasis or two on event types.
Formal Wears: Here, your dress sense should rule out any form of fashion exuberance, simply look decent( neatly pressed clothes appropriately fitted to expose no body part, not even your muscle tone as a guy) and smart (a good hair do, a proper gait and/or a simple make up will do). Some of these events include; corporate meetings, interviews and other professional outing. The dress sense here is strict.
Semi-Formal Wears: Your bestie's wedding, press interviews, school... These events aren't professional but require a good dress composure, little or no body exposure and room event for style.
Informal Wears: It is believed that this is the extreme of fashion where you dress to kill but no, you dress to survive for this kind of events, you are the occasion, you call the shots, there's room enough to express yourself. But there's a catch, the clothes should pick the mood and not the other way around. So, you wanna go shopping or a hangout or probably a workout class, that cool party... Do informal!
Casual Wears: "Oh my! It was one heck of a day at the office today and I'm so hot right now, but I need to chill. What do I wear?"... Casuals, the answer is casuals. The mood picks the cloth baby.
Colour Map
I'll keep this column simple.
I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour
-Wednesday Addams
Whenever you dig in your closet for an outfit, remember to chose a primary colour and a contrast. If your top has a flowery print, pick the theme colour if its dark enough to be a contrast, pick a trouser with a primary colour that suits it.
Other than the primary and contrasting colours there's a colour I like to call the 'Mode'. These colours aren't selective, they fit anything. So, if you intend dressing on a three colour scheme your foot wears, belts or bags Should take the mode.
My Mode: Black, Brown, Navy Blue, Grey.
You
Lastly and most importantly dress sense is meant to consciously express you. The human mind is more or less a galactic space of its own, one way into this vastness is the individual's look. So, If I want to passively know how you feel and the safest way to address you, I'll look out for how you dress.
Try to tell the right story, dress right.
More to come, stay tuned
