Today it is very common to find the term Multiple intelligences, just start reading a book that has something to do with education, or just find some didactic game, or simply get an article related to the upbringing of your Children to find it, this is why I want to make this article to clarify what it is and referred to in this terminology that we should put in practice every day while our children or our students they're growing!

The qualification of intelligent or not intelligent is very common that it is attributed to the people, from very small within the family bosom, but especially in the school or work environment. Being intelligent, is no longer as it was thought in the past an innate and unmodifiable intellectual capacity, measurable through test, but involves adapting to new situations or the environment in which it is necessary to act, overcome obstacles in a successful way, avoid being Deceived, relate ideas, learning autonomously, possessing artistic skills, socially related in a successful way, etc.

The theory of multiple intelligences was devised by the American psychologist Howard Gardner as a counterweight to the paradigm of a unique intelligence.

Gardner proposed that human life requires the development of various types of intelligence. Thus, Gardner does not contradict the scientific definition of intelligence, such as the "ability to solve problems or produce valuable assets".

The American psychologist Howard Gardner, born in 1943, exposed his theory of multiple intelligences arguing that people have in power several intelligences to develop, some more strengthened than others, which determines that exist among the Subjects different cognitive styles, and to each one of them should adapt the form of teaching, not to give only opportunity of development and success to those who excel in mathematics or language, but in other areas, not very held in mind like sports, art or crafts.

This theory indicates that there are eight categories of intelligences:

  1. Linguistics or verbal: that is reflected in the oral and written expression; In the richness of the vocabulary, in the writing, in the reading of a story, in the recitation of a poetry. This intelligence can be noticed in those children who have a knack for crossword puzzles.

  2. The mathematical logic: Group and select data, sort and reorder, realize accounts and all kinds of calculations. is displayed in your preference forStrategies and experimental games.

  3. Corporal: They are skills related to body use and handling, such as any sport, dance or craftwork.

  4. Musical: It is one of the talents that according to Gardner first wakes up. Sensitivity to distinguish musical sounds, and execute and compose melodies.

  5. Spatial: It relates to the concrete world and the ability to visualize its location, for example, is reflected in the visual arts, and in games such as jigsaw puzzle or chess

  6. Interpersonal: It refers to social relations, to leadership skills, to dialogue and to engaging in positive relationships with other people.

  7. Intrapersonal: He is the one who has the aptitude to know himself, his strengths and weaknesses, which contributes to his personal improvement.

  8. Naturalist: It refers to the aptitude to understand and analyse natural phenomena. It is very common in gardeners, biologists or geologists.

¿What does this mean?

That one person is not smarter than another and that intelligence is not unmodifiable! That is not a factor that can be measured with a closed test, that each person, each human being has its own type of intelligence depending on the capacity that it has to develop it. It is not possible to say that Albert Einstein was more intelligent than William Shakespeare for example, but that each one developed but its type of intelligence.

It is for this reason that we as parents and teachers that we have to our responsibility to raise and educate our children, it is of the utmost importance that we have this terminology clear since it is very likely that a child may be more intelligent in a certain area that in another and not by this means that is not smart.
