The style of poetry we see these days are like an evolutionized form of what the real genres are, due to the ever changing styles of art in our world, many writers these days hardly knows what's a style or genre of poetry. As much as I agree that genres of literature and style if writing at times can be a barrier or a limitation to a poet who want to just rhyme away, I would also say, poetry styles and genres are the foundation through which a poet can build a brand or develop a niche or style.
If we take a look at Shakespeare in person, he's defined as a foundation of poetry not because he was the first poet but because he keyyed into the foundation of poetry and built a style which we know today as the ENGLISH SONNET, which consist of four THREE QUADRUPLETS and a COUPLET.
What is a QUADRUPLET AND A COUPLET?
a quadruplet is a poetry with four feet, and a couplet is two lines with the same rhyme at the end.
.
Make no mistake, Shakespeare coined the English sonnet we know today and in a life time work, he wrote more than 200 sonnets.
RECOGNIZING POETRY
Recognizing poetry is key to absorbing the ability to coin one's styles and pattern.
Most people are lovers of free verse, but they they tend to misunderstand the concept which makes their poem loses meaning with too much modernization.
FREE VERSES; they are poems without any rhymes or metric arrangement, that is a free verse hardly comes with rhymes, it allows a writer to express this ideas and the metric arrangements is like not having any signs of stressed syllables or unstressed or also an arrangement of regular stsnzas into a pattern of rhyme like ABAB, or AABB
BLANK VERSES are just rhyme poetry with an IAMBIC PENTAMETER, which writers these days hardly write.
IAMBS are stressed and unstressed syllables while the pentameter means five, that's five stressed and five unstrssed, examples can be seen in Shakespeare "shall I compare thee to a summer day"
However blank verse hardly rhymes.
WHAT IS YOUR OWN STYLE OF POETRY?
A few writers on steemit have coined their own style of writing, I decided to use writers on steemit to show example so that it can be more familiar than using famous people.
for example, @d-pend is a poet who uses sophisticated diction with heightened languages that's need a whole lot more deciphering, he keys unto a certain pattern and that's using the muse to coin his abilities to write, that is to say, his style Is basically heightened language sophisticated themes with nature the most focal theme.
@clayboyn is more of a free verse writer who focuses on many themes with irregular patterned an a beautiful rhyme scheme., his works are catchy because of his amazing rhymes, however, as much as his style is improvised he still maintains an amazing writing cauldron.
@Rensoul17 is a poet with a bit of the emotional flair, she has a thing for rhythmic flair and rhymes, though sometimes her works may not rhyme, but she us amazing, and her style is basically, make impact with words reach for the soul and leave imageries behind.
HOW CAN YOU COIN A STYLE.
The first way to coin a style is reading famous poets work, the best inspiration you find is definitely the best you will key into.
In some other things scribbling poems not for official purpose and pratising figures of speeches.
If you're going to write, make sure it follows the original laws of poetry.
WHAT MAKES POERY?
poetry can only be defined by it's principle, before a poem can called a poem, first at least it must have one or more major characteristics, which your style of writing must embrace.
For example, rhythmic pattern, rhyme scheme, metric arrangements, use of languages use of figurative expression.
These days most people only rhyme, it's fine provided it has a quality of poetry, it actually can be considered as poetry.
CONCLUSIONS
to carve a poetic style of writing in such a community as steemit will help in the creation of more quality contents.
It may also help in having more quality for poetry blog, and redefine the definition of the true nature of poetry.
Needless to say, carving a style of writing individually is a uniqueness all would be poets should acquire, art is individualism, and so is poetry.
From a spiritual perspective, I would encourage exploration rather than setting a particular, defined style.
Be free to try everything, at least that is my way.
My way is no way!
I feel that everyone needs to find their own style instead of imitating others. Personally, I find it extremely restrictive to be forced to follow a certain format or to ensure I include rhymes in my poems-- which I almost never do.
And when I try to force them, I usually end up with a pile of junk that I just trash.
Thanks for the educative post.
I never knew what a couplet or quadruplet was.
You make a good poet yourself Jose!
