WHY YOU NEED TO WRITE?

Dear readers, don't misconceive me, the word 'writing' here doesn't mean the subject taught to nursery and primary school pupils to aid accuracy in putting down figures and letters or copying or duplicating already written down words. When we talk about writing, it means putting down your ideas about a particular topic or happenings in the society.

A dictionary of English defines writing as the act or art of forming letters and characters on paper, wood, stone or other materials, as the case may be, for the purpose of recording the ideas which characters and words express, or of communicating them to others by visible signs. Writing also means any written composition; a pamphlet; a work; a literary production; a book and so on.

Are you worried about why we need to write? There are various reasons why 'we', sorry, not only 'we', 'you', and 'everyone' need to write. If really you want to know why we write, don't hesitate to follow me!

Close your eyes and ponder a bit, imagine a world without writing. Tell me_ I mean the truth, what can you see? I can guess and guess right, I know you'll imagine a world of illiteracy, unletteredness, darkness and confusion.

First, and foremost, we write to express ourselves_ our views about the happenings in our society, community, country and at large, about our world. It is a well known fact that writing is one of the most essential aspects of the society due to its informative, entertaining and educative nature. It is an undoubted fact that various things go through our minds as normal human beings. Things that could be discussed with people and things that one might not be willing and able to discuss. You can express yourself through writing. You can also give your opinion about any issue through writing. If you want to know the type of person someone really is, go through his written works, then, I can affirm, that you'll know him front and back.

Writing changes, modifies the ill-formed lives. It changes lives and touches minds. Because the only thing that is unchangeable in life is change, that is why we need to write_ as in, writing change lives and our worlds. We write to wrong the wrong and right the right. We write to make a change. If you don't create, you won't affect the world around you and if you really want a change in your world, nation, country, state, society, city or street, just start writing. Are you with me?

Writing brings out the best in you. It enables you to discover things about yourself that you never knew. There are hidden skills in every human being but these skills can be discovered through writing. You will never know you can do it until you try. Do you want to get the best out of yourself? I implore you to start by the way of writing.

We write to inform, entertain and to educate. You will reason along with me that writing creates awareness and keeps you updated about issues affecting your society and the world as a whole. Through the help of the internet, you can search for daily news written by different people. You can also be fully informed through newspapers and magazines. Writing serves as entertainment to both the writers and the readers. During your leisure time, you can write to keep yourself busy on any entertaining issue, be it sports, culture, tradition and other things that may be of interest to you and to the readers. We also write to educate the society based on important issues and issues of gossips in our society. People want and need great content, they are reaching out for it and searching for it. If you want to justify the just said above, why don't you go by the way of writing?

There is something peculiar about writing. When you write, you'll be proud to call yourself a writer, especially when people ask about you. A writing hand is never an idle hand. Writing is something you can point to when people ask what you do. Writing is a skill one should be boastful of. It is abysmally abysmal that just few people engage in it, but I'm cock sure that writing is a very interesting skill you can engage in. I wonder how the world would have been without writers.

Writers are respected in the society. Ancient writers like William Shakespeare and George Orwell who are dead for donkey years are still respected and would be respected for their written works. George Orwell's Animal Farm still fits into the current situations of some countries. Prolific writers like Wole Soyinka are so much respected for their written works to the extent that people take them as role models. You'll earn respect from friends, families and even foes, if you are a good writer.

We write not just to gain fame but to make a name. Prolific journalist and writer, George Orwell once said: " one motivation to write is sheer egoism, that we write out well of the desire to seem clever, to be talked about, to be remembered after death, to get your own back on the grown-ups who snubbed you in childhood, etc."

You would agree with me that it would be nice and interesting to live forever but if you can't live forever due to mortality of human race, then why can't your memory live forever? We're still talking about George Orwell, William Shakespeare and the likes long after their deaths, why not you?
