What does part of speech mean?
Each part of speech does not explain what the word is but how the word is used.
Conjunction
Function
- Joining Word
Clue - Joins two words, phrases or clauses
Example
- She went to school, although she was feeling ill.
Preposition
Function
- 'Small words' which usually relate two words or phrases to one another.
Clue - Usually precede nouns, pronouns or articles
Example - The teacher sat on the chair behind her table in the classroom and spoke to her students.

- The words 'a', 'an' or 'the' which precede nouns or adjectives.
Clue - 'a', 'an' .... (Indefinite)
- 'the' .... (Definite)
Example
John won a prize for History. (Indefinite - non-specific)
Peter won the History Prize. (Definite - specific)
