We all have busy days and most of the time we just try and make it through today and get to tomorrow,
but we don't always realise that if we take 5 - 10 minutes to sit and talk to our children, it can make a big difference in their lives.
Let's look at 10 'What' questions we can use to help our children develop a growing mindset.
- What did you do today that really made you think?
- What happened today that made you keep going?
- What can we learn from this?
- What mistake did you make that you can learn from?
- What did you try hard at today?
- What tactic are you going to use now?
- What will you do to challenge yourself?
- What will or can you do to better your work?
- What do you want to, or, can you do to better your talent?
- What will you do to resolve any problems with this?
These are just example questions or guidelines you can use to challenge the way your child is thinking. Try to use words one level up to what they are use to, this will hopefully encourage them to broaden their vocabulary as well.
Until this forms part of your daily routine, start with 3 to 5 questions. It doesn't have to be so in depth either, adjust the questions according to the age of your child and reward them in anyway that is suitable for your child.
Remember, these questions are there to test the way they think. When they answer the questions, help them to answer in full sentences. There are so many different things you can teach them by asking and answering questions.
This will also, very importantly, teach them communication skills. Show an interest in your child's daily experiences and open that line of communication.
