The topic for the week on steemiteducation is about homework. Is homework necessary or is it just a waste of time? I have been thinking about this for the last few days and today I would like to share my view on this topic.
Is it necessary to give a student homework?
Yes, in my opinion it is necessary to give a student homework so that they can practice what they have learned in class. I have come to love doing the homework that my teacher used to give me, because she made homework fun. She gave us work where we could actually learn something and to enjoy it while were busy with it. Because I did my GED last year, we had to practice our reading and writing skills quite a lot, and our teacher made it very exciting because she chose relevant topics that we found interesting. We never did anything boring, but that is just this specific teacher.
In my previous school I was totally overloaded with homework. Teachers did not take into consideration that we have other sport and other activities that we had to do after school. It was just too much. Non- stop work and it irritated me, because it was like they tried to overload us to keep ourselves out of trouble. For that specific reason I disliked school very much. I do love learning and if the homework was in any way beneficial to me, then I would have been glad to do it with a smile on my face, but the work was boring and mostly a repeat of things we have already done in class. Heaps of it.
Most kids never even did the work and often after we spend hours on work then it did not even count towards our marks. This made us reluctant.
Firstly it felt that we were just kept busy as much as possible. Secondly we would get into trouble if we didn't do the work, even though it did not count. What is the use of doing anything if you don't receive any compensation?
Once again, it depends on the teacher. I honestly believe that a teacher can make or break you, and because of the last teacher I had doing my GED, I was taught to embrace reading, because if you can read, then you can study anything. It is also this same teacher who has brought a few of us on to steemit. I would never have known about this wonderful platform if it wasn't for her, and the money I have made here, has helped me out of a few difficult situation. I am forever grateful for that.
So in conclusion, homework is bad if too much is given, but homework can be great, if you have the right teacher that puts in effort and make it feel worth it.
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
