Do You Believe In Follow 4 Follow?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

So since my time on Steemit I have noticed the newbie trend of Follow 4 Follow.

I myself, being a newbie, fell into this trap by accepting to follow people who followed me for a follow. That being said at the time I had no friends on here.

Although everyone uses whatever approach they want, here are a few of my thoughts on the subject:

Follow 4 Follow does NOT work. Why?

  1. Most who ask you “Follow 4 Follow” don’t care about YOUR content; they care about the follow back.
  2. Why would you wanna follow someone who wants to be your friend just so you can follow them back?

I suggest you spend some time browsing the posts under the categories that MIGHT interest you. Eventually you will find some content that actually DOES interest you, and just follow whoever inspires you?

Who knows, you might even make some friends to chit chat with on the platform? And anyways, wouldn't you rather host an awesome party where you have your favourite people over, instead of a million random strangers who don't give AF about you?

My thoughts. Follow me @yassine 'cause you want to, not for a follow.

And has Follow 4 Follow worked for you? Please let me know in the comments section below!

Any time I see someone say something like that, I immediately want to mute them. I have no one muted right now, but it's very tempted to mute such people.

You want quality followers who genuinely benefit from your content. Are they benefiting from your passion? Do they really care about what you're posting? If they do not, why are they following you?

Following does not mean upvoting. Upvoting is how we make money.

Upvoting by people who have a lot of SP invested in Steemit is of course way better than those who do not.

Will they resteem your content? Resteems are the one of the two best ways to get more followers.

(adding quality replies to other successful author's posts is the other)

I'd rather have 30 people who consistently upvote my content and produce good content of their own, than one thousand followers who don't even read my stuff and don't contribute or care.

Yup!

Totally agree with you @finnian. Thanks for your thoughts and adding to this discussion! Now I will follow you. ;)

It worked, I'm following you now. XD

Yeah, I was already following you so.....

i honestly get more followers when i don't engage in follow for follow

Yes, and those are likely more quality followers :)

Hey there @yassine. Imo, as a fairly newbie, the follow for follow isn't the right approach as you've well stated. There is no common interest. There will likely be the occasional hit here and there where you actually do enjoy either or both parties content however you're clouding your feed with what ,to you, will be hogwash. I'm sure it has worked for some however that will have to be a debate/analysis on its own. Cheers buddy :)

Yeah it's funny I guess they kinda see it like: "you have to follow me - you have to like my stuff" lol - I do understand a newbie wanting to expand his circle but they are other ways. Have a great saturday buddy!

IMO it takes longer to keep a track of who you are following, who is following you, and try keeping it in balance rather than just focusing on your content. Especially on instagram. You have bots automatically following and unfollowing. Organic reach is more important than numbers. Steemon!

Je n'y crois absolument pas !
D'ailleurs, je follow uniquement les contenus qui m'intérressent ! ;-) Et quand la personne poste trop de contenus indésirable, soit je la mute soit je me dé-follow !

I had the same thoughts at the beginning when I started with steemit.
Nice text. Looking forward reading more from you. :)
