It's going to be impossible to keep users if we keep hopping. Slack, then rocketchat, now discord.
I don't like voice chat personally, plus I don't always have privacy where it would be appropriate. Sorry to see so many people leaving steemit.chat which was perfectly serviceable. But congrats I guess.
I'm honestly not that big a fan of rocketchat. It definitely serves its purpose, but it leaves a bit to be desired. I suppose people will have their favorites for a while, but eventually I think people will settle for where most people can be found. In this case, I believe it was the features the new platform offered that ended up being the deciding factor to make the move.
No one stated you had to voice chat, plenty of text chat options; which is Discords main focus.
Personally I like the Rocketchat. I would rather have some deeper integration of that with the main site than go elsewhere. Also I'd be happy to contribute towards further development of it.
I gotta say, I love Discord (if that wasn't already obvious lol), but granted, that's because my friends and I use it to talk to each other, as well as to do the podcast (again, of course), so at least as long as we're producing the show, I'll probably never leave it. Now that a huge group of people seem to be coming over, it almost feels as if a city is being built.
just curious.
how comes you have 12 votes, but it registered as $0 ??
(sorry if my question is naive)
A whole different algorithm was in place when that post was made over a year ago. Your vote really only mattered if you were rich. This is still true, but less drastic.
@winstonwolfe Thank you for the SteemTrail write up! I'm already seeing an increase in collaboration and member activity within the SteemTrail communities. Love it!
I think there was a clear reasoning behind SteemitBar ultimately leaving rocket chat for a better platform. Rocket Chat just wasn't stable enough for me and a great number of other users.
The browser version often couldn't even keep up with fast chat activity and the Windows app would crash and force you to restart. Sometimes unsuccessfully.
There's already a much better platform than that. It's called Discord.
I love discord and have been enjoying hanging out in SteemSpeak's general voice chat!
We love you too, whatsup
How do I get an invite for this? It states on the app I need one to add steemchat?
It's crazy how a trend can happen and within a week everything is different!
When telling people about steemit, I let them know to sign up for steemit.chat, too. Most of them are computer novices. While having all these external sites & tools are are handy for me, I don't know that they are helping the onboarding experience.
I certainly don't expect this to become a habit. In fact, there's a tutorial on how to use it. Perhaps someone could put together a video tutorial to make it as smooth as possible for new users?
EDIT: Found the video by @beanz, added it to the post. ;-)
I joined Discord but honestly wish I had more time to dedicate to chat... I don't. LOL But when I pop in, it's usually to sidle up to the bar and goof off a little. :)
awesome. thanks for this. i've added myself on 'everything' ;)
Discord, discord, discord...
Discord is one unique service with so many tools for organizing and planning like different Discord bots and sites, and so much you can do with events and gaming.
It's hard not to get why so many people are switching to Discord, it's a hit! I guess it's all about staying there though, right?
I personally just love the ability it gives me to connect with people.
Thanks, this was very usefull for me!
