Dear steemit, thank you for dinner last night!

in #steemit8 years ago

Last night I had a lovely dinner. Honestly, it was the most delicious Salmon I have ever had and at about $10.00 the price was right too!

While I didn't have any cash on me, I did have some steem dollars which I cashed out at the ATM and used to pay for my meal.

It was only possible, because recently we installed a new crypto currency ATM at the restaurant, which is also attached to the hotel and resort as you can see in the picture above.

This is an area where the next nearest ATM is a 30 minute drive and they don't take credit or debit cards. They're cash only, the ATM is a game changer for them. I'll be working with them to accept steem dollars directly and bring them to steemit in general, but until that's in place, the ATM is the next best thing.

I want to invite everyone to stop by La Fonda, grab a bite to eat, enjoy the sights and use your Steem Dollars to do it.
Their website is http://www.garyslafondabaja.com/ and they have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Garys-La-Fonda-Hotel-Northern-Baja-Mexico-202032952657
Here is a google map to get you there, https://goo.gl/maps/3xcBVFvaejJ2

As I was sitting there enjoying my meal I realized that I wanted to say thank you to anyone who's ever upvoted me, because your upvotes literally paid for that meal. I know we have a lot of discussions going on about the rewards etc, but I wanted to start a new tag #iusedsteem to show off the things we purchased either directly or indirectly with funds earned here. I'll be setting my voting bot to automatically upvote all posts with #iusedsteem at 100% and I'd like to encourage others to do so as well. I'd also like to encourage people to share posts with this tag on their other social media accounts. I mean seriously, how many people can say "I bought this dinner with money I earned from tweeting."?

By demonstrating that this currency has real uses and real users, we can show the world that this is very much a living, breathing economy, that everyone can benefit from and this will attract more users, and the more users we have, the more valuable the platform becomes. So thank you everyone and keep steeming!

This post is 100% steem powered!

Upvoted and Resteemed! I'm dreaming of the day I can get there and try a dish with my Steem! Perhaps something with shrimp...

Thanks for the great post...great to see one can use Steem dollars in the real world. Thanks for sharing, and coming up with the great idea for the tag. I dream a world where someday I can go buy a nice meal, or really dream...a new camera, etc with Steemdollars. Thanks again.

That looks like a really nice place! I'd like to get there one day and pay with Viva! :-)

Very cool to actually see this... "virtual world"... translated into something tangible! Steemit seems like such a great way to offer people a "soft entry point" into alt. currencies.

thanks for sharing this story :)
-happy to be a follower! steemon!

So awesome that you've installed that ATM to make this possible! I admire all the hard work you've been doing to spread acceptance of Steem and of crypto in general, and look forward to many such synergies between VIVA and the Steemit community. Here's hoping this is just the start of a trend!

Never thought ATM would be a bridge between cryptocurrency and business in this way.

That's a great idea to use the #iusedsteem tag. I'd like to be able to use Steem directly like that. Absolutely. I'm looking forward to seeing posts under that tag!

If only I can transfer my steem, i am unable to do that at the moment. but the tag is very applicable and important, right @mallorcaman?

That's pretty awesome :D Hopefully my technologically backarsewards country will get that kind of thing soon, I'd love to be able to use steem dollars for things and then my doubting friends can stop laughing at me for wasting time playing with monopoly money XD

This is so cool! I have yet to see an ATM in my area that accepts cryptocurrency. You can believe that I'd be posing with that thing like it was my best friend! LOL

Thanks for all your work! Once I'm sufficently loaded I will drop by to try that ATM,and have dinner at this historical site.

That's so great. I'll use the tag when I get to spend some STEEM.

Great post.

I have been thinking quite a bit this last week actually about real life uses for crypto currency and Steem, so this post really hit home for me.

This post has been ranked within the top 25 most undervalued posts in the first half of Feb 27. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $10.18 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Feb 27 - Part I. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.

I love that idea of the tag #iusedsteem
and I hope that this happens here, too.

I freaking agree! I wonder if there would be some sort of steemkassa somewhere - just like the bitkassa which has helped pump btc up. I think had btc not been used it would just be ignored too and just like what my mother in law says - btc? is that real money? crypto? are those real money? and will remain as - "no value"

You're freaking awesome to have been able to pull this off!

Thanks! I've always been of the notion that money is only worth what you can buy with it.

@tradeqwik - you're on your other .. :P
anyway, you are so right about that!

Great piece. Upvoted and shared on twitter for more to see. Stephen

Thank you so much for that!

That is fantastic! Keep up all the good work!

Ah, I missed to add their site on the blog I posted the other night. Thanks for doing that! Resteemed!

Very cool. I think I need to Google places and site's where I can pay with steem. :)
