Thank-you notes, condolences, congratulations, etc., are still a more personal, meaningful way to communicate. Even I agree with that and practice it, but not as often as I use to.
Bring back the 90s when I moved away from home to another city 12 hours away, letter writing was an art form, I would write 3+ letters a week to my parents, boyfriend at the time and friends. You could sense a persons personality and mood when they were writing the letter, the time it would take to write a letter, think through the comments, a sense of accomplishment when the letter ended...phew!
Even after 20 years away from home I have held on to all the letters that have been sent to me, I feel a great sense of nostalgia, going back to another place and time, what will be my legacy? Leaving a username with a password to my grandchildren or beautiful manuscripts of beautifully handwritten sentiments.
I found writing a true pleasure and creates a distinct impression on those lucky enough to receive ones letters, it added a weight of sincerity to ones words.
I do hope we resurrect this tradition as when it comes to sharing one’s true thoughts, sincere sympathies, ardent love, and deepest gratitude, words traveling along an invisible superhighway will never suffice, to a handwritten note.
