Do Not Get Discouraged With Random Low Paying Posts - Steemit Advice

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I understand how you feel. You work your butt off on a post and it gets nothing. But a post you made another day or maybe even in the same day, that you put the same or maybe even less effort into, did much better. It is normal to think you did something wrong or your post wasn't good. But that is not always the case. You should always try to improve your work, whether it is writing or making videos, but how well a post does is not a direct indication of how well your post was. Sometimes your post doesn't get seen. Sometimes it gets buried under other posts. Maybe it does get seen and the users who would upvote it have no more voting power left. Timing is a big factor. But knowing when is the right time is impossible. Everyone on this site is their own person with their own lives and as it has members around the world, there are different time zones. This happens on every site. So where does that leave you?

I know this is going to sound a little curt, but one piece of advice that I can give you is suck it up and keep working. That might sound a little cold but if you want to be a successful writer, photographer, filmmaker, you are going to have to learn to slog through a lot of downs. You can sit there thinking why didn't my post do well or start working on the next one. If you spam you will only piss people off and when your post does get seen, you will be happy it was a post of quality. Now if you are working for weeks and seeing no progress then it might be time to reassess things. If there are any users who are seeing no progress, please let me know in the comments. But if you are having highs and lows, then ride it out, you are not the only ones.

I have had some really successful posts on here but I have had posts that fell flat. It could be the timing or maybe the post but either way, it doesn't matter, I keep on working. Here is a screen shot of what I mean on my page:

I had three in a row that were lower and then two that kicked ass. How did a post about the Konami code working on the Canadian government site not trend :p. And that post about the HF was a piece like my others that did well but it didn't take off. It happens. I'm not complaining at all, just letting people know ups and downs are normal. I felt that my last post about people getting paid for their content would do well and it isn't. And we will see how this one does. But I do not take it personally. Well I try not to, we are all human and you do question when you are not doing well, even just a second thought or two, but I will keep pushing forward.

Downs happen to us all.

Let me know your success stories after a slow period.

Great encouraging post @whatageek. Most of my posts are low payouts and I dont get discouraged either! We continue to post and create a better community! Take care

Thanks @sgnsteems, hope you find success in yout posts.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement. As a newbie, I find that it is very hard to get visibility and traffic.
I completely agree with this statement: "how well a post does is not a direct indication of how well your post was".
Upvoted!

Yeah it can be hard compared to people with older accounts, if I haven't told you, check out @curie for help.

Thank you.

Very True.... I am lucky enough to be on a couple of vote bot lists, which means that I rarely write a post that gets below $2, but i still find it discouraging when I see that most of my votes on a post come from the bots....

I will keep going, though!

Awesome. It happens but as long as you know you have good days it helps.

I agree with you, don't forget if you hold the Steem in the end it does pay off. Before I took the couple month break I was around $200 or $300, having done nothing for those few months and returning to SteemIt, my wallet is now sitting closer to $1700 or there about. So sure at the time my post did not really make a great payout, in time that low payout turned into a larger reward.

That is true, it is one of the reasons I'm working so hard now to get steem built up. Maybe steem will get $5 by the end of the year, if this market slump is temporary.

Lets hope so, with BTCC and Steem is now in the lead we just might get there sooner.

Thank you for the great info as always. I enjoy reading your posts!

Thank you :)

I try my best not to haha. but thanks for the words. Sometime you hit and sometimes you miss. And i think it has a bit to do with time of day that you post too, who's awake and online and who's not lol.. Lots of variables. but your posts are always good. Keep them coming

Definitely, and it is hard to factor in all those variables. And thanks for the kind words.

Good advice. It's also a good idea to have the primary purpose be the enjoyment of posting and sharing information, with the money being icing on the cake.

It is good to have on the side as well.

Thanks for this encouraging post!

Thanks for the great post ! I have been kind of discouraged a lot of my posts are getting close to nothing...maybe my luck will change !

Haven't had one over .50 but I kind of like steemit very different feed from FB. I'll continue to post as at least a few people find them relevant.

Yes, just make another posting, who know on next posting will be better ? I agree with you.

Thanks for a great post. It can be very frustrating if you try to make heads or tails of things over time. As you say, there are SO many factors. This is a great post for folks just starting out as well, to keep working, and put out quality content. It is hard when you spend all day on a writing post, and it goes nowhere, but as you say, you just have to push on through. I've been on here for seven months, and it comes and goes like a pendulum. I do know I don't post enough, as that is very important. But it goes through cycles as well. Thanks for the great ideas/info.
