Every week, I try to do one thing to help local organizations, charities and people in need. This week I am taking some food to the local Food Bank and I wanted to see if this awesome Steemit community will help.
I'm a small business owner and not a wealthy guy, but I try to help. I am going to try something new with you all and see if it works.
I plan on taking $30 of canned goods and other items to the food bank next week. Instead of just taking what I can afford, can you help?
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
FOR every 10 votes this post gets, I will take an additional 5 cans of food.
If for some reason this goes viral on Steemit, which would be awesome, I'll figure out a larger amount to take.

HOW WILL YOU KNOW I AM NOT JUST SKIPPING TOWN WITH MY STEEM CASH AND PARTYING?
I will record a video of me dropping off all the food items at the FOOD BANK next Tuesday (June 27th) and post it on Steemit.
If this goes well, I would like to do it more often. I do something like this each week, and try to involve my kids too so they can grow up knowing that they need to help people in this world. I think it would be really cool to allow the Steemit community to get involved and by clicking a button helping me make a larger impact in people's lives.

hey bro, i live in New London, CT...really impoverished small town in eastern CT...
My wife just told me that they do the soup kitchens on saturday too, ill probably just go over there and talk to them, this kinda thing for giving back to the homeless is fucking amazing, and honestly man....this is always a part of me i never fulfilled..im glad i found steemit man, it really can help change the world if we THE PEOPLE do what we are supposed to do with this power...and not fucking abuse it...anyway yeah man im going there saturday

I managed to climb the teflon slick wall out from that place thanks to blogging on steem, sometimes just with a 5 year old android phone... Steem is about everyone having a say who gets the new money, it turns central banking on its head, and with linear rewards, now it's really going to shine.

I would like to suggest other items besides food. In most cities and towns there tends to be a vast amount of food donated- most places actually have to discard food. Items like razors, socks, pocket tissues packs, toothbrushes, lotion, feminine items and seemingly little items like that are in high demand and almost never donated. Check with your local charity, they will best know what they can use and what is needed.
Great suggestion. I double checked with the Food Bank and they are in need. They get over loaded during the holidays, but they need stuff now. We have a local charity called the Hope House that I could donate those items to. I will do that next week!!!! Thank you.

What a creative way to do good. I hope you get tons of votes! There are a lot of homeless people in my city. I don't have much money, but I do save free samples I get of things like toothpaste and shampoos etc, and pass them out when I ride my bike. It's small, but sometimes just one kindness can boost someone's morale and it makes me feel like I am least trying to be an albeit small part of the solution. Upvoted and resteemed.

Great idea and project. I think I will start doing some charity posts highlighting certain non-profits I am involved with and send the proceeds to them. Even if it's not much, it will get the information out there.
