I like your idea, @piedpiper, about hiding the up-vote option until the bottom of the article. I think some people like to jump on the "trending bandwagon" and up-vote things that seem to be instantly popular with the community, before actually reading the content. This is evident anytime you post 500 words, and you have up-votes within seconds. Other times, I think people up-vote others who they follow to show their respect/appreciation.
Good job, both of you, for bringing up this point, though. We all want to continue to make the community better, and there may be potential improvements in this area :)
I'm at the very least, skimming the post to make sure it's not something that I wouldn't want to show support for. So far, no problems. I even upvoted a chicken soup recipe despite my veganism. :)
