Who was Mata Hari?

  •  Margaretha Geertruida Zelle: A catastrophic woman.

The most legendary spy of the 20th century  was born on August 7th, 1876,  in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.  With only 18 years of age, Margaretha married a soldier 20 years older than her, Campbell MacLeod, with whom he went to live in a Dutch colony, and that made her suffer a lot of deficiencies due to his alcoholism. Two children were from this marriage: Norman-John and Louise Jeanne.  Mata Hari began to be interested in the culture Javanese and Oriental techniques. After the death of his son, Norman-John, and the failure of his marriage, he decided to return to Europe in 1902.  Once there, Campbell MacLeod pushed Louise Jeanne out of her mother, due to her "undecent" life.

Later in Paris, Margaretha changed his identity to the famous "Mata Hari", which means "Eye of the Morning".  Under this name, and taking advantage of his exotic physical characteristics, he began to practise as an exotic and erotic dancer. In his shows, home full, stripped to the rhythm of his dance, exposed his sensual attributes, minus his breasts, this was something that made her feel insecure, due to its small size.  Mata Hari was not only a dancer, she was also a prostitute who had countless romances and passions with men of very high level and category.

The pain, the noise and the hopelessness came along with the outbreak of the First World War. Mata Hari was in Berlin, and due to his contectos, was put at the disposal of a German consul and chief of espionage, and thus, Mata Hari returned to change his identity to agent H-21.  When he returned to Paris, Mata Hari made a big mistake: to give information about the German forces to Captain Georges Ladoux, who suspected her, and kept her under surveillance.

Mata Hari fell in love with a Russian officer who was in the service of France, for which he requested permission to go to the front. During that period, he kept sending information as agent H-21 to German forces, but this time, his messages were intercepted by Ladoux, who under misleading offers, made her return to France for a single purpose: to end her life.

In 1917 she was arrested, and brought to trial, where she was accused of spying, and obtaining information from the military through sexual intercourse, and condemned to death. Mata Hari denied it, alleging that his intimate relations were solely for pleasure:

A harlot, yes, but a traitor, never!

Mata Hari's life ended on October 15, 1917 in Vincennes, Paris, France, with 41 years of age. Full of courage before being shot, Mata Hari fired the platoon with a sweet kiss.
