STEEMIT ToS & Privacy Policy -- How to BYPASS Them

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Please review our terms to continue

Yesterday, i saw this posthave to agree with them. Their concern was that they weren't even able to see those new policies in place, and that they had to agree with something they didn't know what it contained . by @krnel, mentioning the fact they were new Terms of Services in place for Steemit, and if they were to continue using the platform, they

I wasn't sure what they talked about, as nothing pop up on my display, so i was happy .

Until today .

As you see in the image above, the long arm of the policies reached my screen.

1 . Firstly:

In order to see the the Terms of Service for example, just right click on 'Terms of Service' and click open in new tab . And there you would be able to see it . Same goes for the Privacy Policy .

Or click this link for ToS and this link for the Privacy Policy.

If you want to bypass that, then, there is a way (one so far, that works for me) : If you have one or two tabs opened
already and you have the credentials saved in your browser, then on one of those tabs right-click on your account and open your profile in a new tab. There it should pop up the modal window to agree with their terms . Please keep that open, and while that is open, the already opened tabs that you had - will allow you to continue your work and do whatever without forcing you to agree with their ToS .

Bear in mind that you have to leave those 2 tabs open (so don't close them) and the third one as well (with the ToS) .
It works for me in ChromBrowser and Vivaldi . So try and experiment and see for yourself for the browser that you guys use .

Now, why would you bypass that? Below are few gems i read and extracted from their new policies .
So, what do they contain? Basically is a procedural update usually not bringing significant changes to how things work .

But i see something new here, today . That brings me to:

2 . What is it that it's fishy?

In the Use of Personal Information from above, from 4 topics only 1 is about the user and the platform. The rest of them is about the law, in accordance with the law or compliance - with the law of course .

Well if your privacy has to match with the long vampiric arm of the law, do you have any privacy at all >? And especially that we are talking about blockchain technology here; this supposed to be decentralized - apart from the governments, centralization and their crappy big-brothery laws .

So, you still have the right to privacy from now on? Probably not . Although is not mentioned, there's a lot of room left for interpretation there to dodge around with your privacy.

They do not share or SELL the personal information that we provide, but they do .

-Oh! I never lied to you Mary Jane, except for this, this and that. And that other time with your sister. But that was nothing . But other than that, i never ever lied to you . Hmm.. 😶 .

Yeah, it clearly says: we will disclose your personal data to affiliates, to force negotiate a business deal in their own personal best interest or to successfully complete a merger, or compliance with the very just - confident - highly impeccable and uncorrupt baton of the law . Yeay! World is so much safer now !

You only have certain rights .

20180616_115648.jpg

Oh yeah. Too many rights will make anyone feel dizzy . So in your best interest, we only give you very little so that you feel amazing ;) .

Yes, you can delete your personal info if you want (you can try, but donno if Santa will agree hihi) . Yup, just send a request, and if they feel high and happy, they may accept your request to do so; otherwise they have the right to decline, because you accept their ToS, because otherwise you can't use the platform.

Uuh that is smooth as greek youghurt is i'm telling you :D .

20180616_115807.jpg

Well, the image above shows you that you can no longer use absolutely anything anymore that is related to the steemit logo, without Explicit Permission - or how they name it: ''express written permission'' . Yeay, that's less colloquially right ;) . Also it says if you get a virus from their servers, it's not their problem, but yours :D ! That's some happy news .

To keep it short, the next image tells that if they go down the rabbit whole, you're f**ed and they can go away with it. Not their problem right ? I mean, it's not their business, their servers, their .. everything . Hmm..

20180616_115841.jpg

Oke, in the above, if you die using Steemit.com , well it's on you ahahah. So don't die oke? Not that using steemit is highly risky :))) .

Anyway, there more gems if you read through, so take your time to see whether you agree or not with what's written, and therefore act accordingly .

Thank you for making it till the end .

And thank you for your upvotes and free beer !! hahaha!! Have a great night everyone :D !

Actually, I do not have anything to be afraid, I have not done anything illegal and I dont intend to. I live in Turkey and I know how freedom of speech can be breached. So...
I know it is shitty but I would like to use the steemit more. The cell phone companies already have my information. I am not an important man.
As long as they dont sell my ''keys'' I am kind of okay with them storing my data...
I think...

But, this is not decentralized for sure. Steemit is getting closer and closer to the facebook it seems.

Hi @captainsailor, thanks for your input. Indeed many of us have not done anything illegal and don't intend doing so; nevertheless, politicians and police say if you have nothing to hide why don't you let us search inside? Well it's about the basic human rights to privacy, freedom ect. Yes it is shitty, and if you want to continue to use @steemit, you can switch to @busy.org ; whatever your input on busy.org, it will be on the steem blockchain, but without the privacy raping policies of #steemit . And you'll continue to be rewarded just as before . And yes, steemit is getting closer and closer on a fast pace to #facebook. That's a shame and is going to affect badly the users and steemit interaction . Already #steem price is going down .

ps. sorry i can't upvote your comment, it shows me an error saying my my voting weight is too small. I'll make it up once it gets cleared. Cheers

No need to upvote we are having a conversation, I 'm not here for any kind of vote.

I already checked the boxes and agreed to use steemit that way.... So, Busy might be next step I don't know.. Thank you for your quick reply :)

Yes, we're having a conversation and i appreciate that. Comparing to : ''nice post/comment'' kind of conversation many are used to here on steemit, i believe an upvote is more than required to show appreciation. Thank you as well.
