My First Week On STEEMIT And Valuable Lessons Learned

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

It is just a week I am on Steemit and there are already a lot of lessons I have learned in this short duration. I thought of sharing them today with you all. I am sure it will help you all in some way or the other. Here is my story of the first week on STEEMIT.

PREFACE

I started with the intention of making it big, hustling my way up and earning huge. And I started to vote and comment just randomly on whatever came my way. And I also found many who were doing the same. I got few cents and few followers but in 2-3 days only I felt an uneasiness within myself. And soon it dawned on me that this is not what STEEMIT is meant for and maybe I was all wrong about it.

REALIZATION

When I joined I had read some of the posts on the Welcome page of my account but had skipped and rushed through others just in the madness of making money or becoming famous.

I made a mistake. I thought of STEEMIT as just another Social Media platform.

Then I went through all enlightening posts on the Welcome page and read 8-10 pages of Steem White Paper. As I read and spend some time with the idea and concept on which Steemit is created and for what it stands for, I changed my attitude towards and behaviour in this wonderful platform and community.

I realized Steemit is not just a platform. It a community with same family-based values and economic model of a village which I have seen and known in my country i.e. India.

This realization made me change the way I was behaving and my attitude towards it.

THE CHANGE IN MY APPROACH

In last 3 days, I am a different Steemian than the one who joined it 7 days back.

  1. I am only reading topics which interested me and going through posts which I feel have been written with much sincerity and add value and not with the intention of just putting something to make few bucks.

  2. Also if some write up did not interest me, I would just skip and not read it fully. I feel it is no use forcing oneself to like some post or creator if it does not interest you. There are lot more tribe members and their creations waiting to be discovered by you. And even they are looking for you in this Steem ocean. One thing I did do was give my honest feedback if I felt the need.

  3. After reading any post fully I would give my comment for sure. Also if there is something I can do to make it better, like pointing out improvements or giving positive criticism, I would do it but only after reading it fully and understanding it.

  4. As I have limited time which I can spend on Steemit, I only read topics of my interest. Mostly Life, Health, Writing AND Story. With time I will involve more and get into other fields where my curiosity might pull me. My strategy is same as that was of Tortoise in the story you must have read in your childhood. Go Slow and Steady!

  5. I follow people only after seeing a good number of their work and if what they are in some way related to my interests.

  6. I upvote only a few posts, which are best of all I have read in the whole day.

  7. Whatever I read fully and feel will add value to my followers, I make sure to ReBlog it.

RESULT

The last 3 days are different from first 4 days. Read to KNOW HOW?

  1. I am beginning to find people with similar interests and thought process.

  2. There is a slight increase in reputation level. But the good part is the process of being here and engaging is so wonderful that I care less about it now.

  3. Followers are increasing but this is a natural growth. I am not even aiming for it or even working towards it, but it is happening as a by-product of what I do here genuinely and with all my heart.

  4. Also, I will not actually call it growth. It is just that my tribe is increasing and I am finding more and more people who are adding value to my life and I am also doing same. Law of Reciprocity!

  5. My comments have earned me more than my posts if I see stats till now. But I am sure that if I follow the due process and respect the community for what it stands for, money will just flow. I already saw it happening in just 2 days to some extent.

FEW MORE VALUABLE THOUGHTS

  1. The joy of engaging, giving and adding value to platform and life of people is more wonderful than getting stressed out on getting followers and money.

  2. There is no use and fun in getting restless and anxious about how it all will turn out. Do what I do. Every day spend some time here, write, engage and add value. With value addition, will come everything that you desire for. Maybe more if you focus 100% on giving.

  3. The thing of Steemit as your new village and people here as your new family and do what you would do help them out, give valuable contributions and make it a beautiful and wonderful place to be, learn, grow, earn and engage.

The image on the Welcome page clearly sums up what I have said here. I got this only 2 days back and since then everything changed for me and it is a good and welcome change.

COME FOR THE REWARDS. STAY FOR THE COMMUNITY.
