Anyone can join Steemit with just three simple things such as Internet, Computer and Electricity. Over and above, you have to prove your identity, write really good content and also indulge in healthy conversation with other steemians. One might think is this similar to Facebook, the simple answer is yes and no. Facebook would allow you to share your photos, albums, videos but you are not in control of your data. Here in steemit you have full control of your data, there is no algorithm you can see various categories post viz. new, hot, trending and promoted. Facebook decides, which post you want to see. If you are in steemit for long term the future growth and rewards looks good.
As a novice don't get disappointed that you are not generating enough steem like the ones in hot and trending pages. Just be consistent and write good content, sooner than later you will reach that spot too.
Whales tempt us so much, but patience and engagement are the keys here
