The Borg is an interesting concept, pretty awesome for a tv show to develop. While I didn't realize it before I understood voluntarism, which happened but lately, the shows are relentlessly statist.
The propaganda is deep on Deep Space Nine. Probably less so there than on the other Star Trek versions.
The Borg are the ultimate statists. There is no dissent.
Once the new generation of infants is raised on their VR Iphones, that will be humanity - void of functional free will, mere cyborgs in the deep state machine.
voluntarism, is another thing that's expolited in todays world.
As in rich people who create 'volunteers' to get work done without having to pay for it.
So whenever someone is a volunteer he has to ask himself, am i really helping or am i just being exploited by someone behind the scenes.
Dunno if I'm preaching to the choir here, but by voluntarism I mean not coercing. If folks wanna join my army, they can. If they don't I am not allowed to make them.
It's not the way things work now.
Edit: of course, try to tell the guy with the army he's not allowed. LOL
