It seems to have been an upsurge of articles here on Steemit the last week pointing to the fact that minnows don’t stand a chance to be seen and actually earn money with their articles. Some whales have pointed it out, minnows have stated the fact and here I am, 3 weeks into my Steemit experience, and feeling slightly subdued. Mine, and many other minnows', excitement about Steemit quickly fade away once we realize that the advice “write good quality and keep posting and slowly you’ll build up a following and earn money” doesn’t actually work. So what’s left? Bots are what most people use, but you will need a lot of money to advertise yourself like that and it might not even work. Then what?
I’ve seen some posts trying to solve this problem. @Gogreenbuddy is doing a daily upvote challenge to help combat the bots and @arcange has a Daily hit parade to promote minnows. So, I also wanted to contribute to the subject because I really like Steemit and want to find ways to improve it instead of giving up or just hope that someone else will fix it.
My idea is simple and actually not mine at all :) I've got it from @elpompador ‘s youtube video but since the idea needs a smaller group (a couple of hundred people) and he posted this 3 months ago, I thought I'd start a new group.
The idea
The idea is this: We will use the tag “Sally” in all our posts and then every day we’ll go to the tag (Search for “sally” or just click on the tag in your post) and upvote everyone who has used it. This means that we’ll get a lot of upvotes, and the more upvotes, the more chance it is to end up on the trending page and be seen. Simple! You can put the tag last, so it doesn't interfere with the "real" tags like "steemit" or "psychology" etc.
There is one rule for the Sally tag: Only quality content is allowed. Doesn’t matter what subject you are writing about, but make it a good post. The kind of content that Steemit was meant for.
So, this is a group effort. It’s not enough to just use the tag and then leave, we need to help each other by upvoting. Some people might object that if you upvote too much you don’t have much steem power to give but for most of us minnows that doesn’t matter because even when we are on full power we can only give 1 cent. And to get on to the Trending page it doesn’t matter how much money each upvote gives you, just how many upvotes you get.
Other objections that people might have: This is cheating.
I don’t consider it cheating, one of the problems that Steemit has is that there are too many posts, they don’t get seen. This tag-system from @elpompador makes sub-groups within Steemit, so we don’t get bombarded with 100 post/ minute but actually few enough that we can handle and do something with. And, since it’s meant for quality posts we will actually want to read the articles that are posted. I don’t know about you but I have a really difficult time to even find authors with good content, most things on the trending page or hot page are kind of just rubbish to be honest.
So, that’s my input to the current Steemit discussion. Thank you @elpompador for the original idea and I hope you don’t mind me re-using it like this.
If you like this idea, re-steem the article and let it spread. And remember, do your daily upvoting and commenting on the tag Sally :)
This is a very good idea and initiative! Well done!
amazing idea
Woa nice, thank you !
