Hello steemian. Here is an opportunity to correct a common error among newbies. When the purpose of a thing is unknown, they say abuse is inevitable. In this case, if the purpose of a thing is neglected, abuse is certain. I will be talking about tags and the usage.

A tag is usually a word that reflects the keywords or points contained in an article.
Your tags are more like an index that gives a reader an idea of what your article is all about. Tags also help search engines like google and so on to suggest an article to any random person who wants to know about it. It is therefore imperative that when writing an article, the right tag is used. In choosing tags for your post, consider how you would find the information there if it weren't your blog. Think of tags you would look out for if you wanted to find this article.
However, the quest for bigger upvotes, followership and what have you have made writers, minnows especially, to use trending tags, which most times do not relate to the content of their articles so that they may receive a larger audience for it, but have you asked yourself how many meaningful interactions you have gotten for your posts since you have been using unrelated tags? If your article in informative enough, use relevant tags and the right audience will come for it. Also consider the relevance of your post in the long run. Will it still have any relevance after pay-out or all you’re concerned about is your pay-out?
Using misleading tags does even more harm than good. When you are consistent at using wrong tags, you repel potential readers and you are likely to lose quality followers. Steemit success is a step-wise process. You will get to the top, only when you follow due process.
