I am new to steemit and was very excited at first but as I started to explore some of the new video content publishers I noted some kind of behavior that I neither expected nor appreciated it.
I believe it is not in the best interest of this community to encourage such suggesting gifs:
Let me explain why:
The community should be encouraged to focus on advertising content purely through the value inherent in the content itself. By using other methods of catching attention such as the subliminal autosuggesting gifs posted earlier will create 3 problems.
The content will be overvalued from its true worth. Users will feel like voting even if the content is mediocre. Why would a content creator beg for a vote instead of giving users the space to decide for themselves? If the content is worthy of a vote people will vote it anyway. It doesn't sound right, and that's one good reason it's illegal to ask for votes on Reddit.
Eventually, steemit users who do not use suggesting images will be seen as lacking confident in their content. Once people get used to vote only when they're asked to vote, they will not feel like voting if no one asked. The opposite should be true, namely people vote because they genuinely want to reward the content creator and not because he's begging for money.
Let's keep steemit pure from visual clutter, it is one of the reasons I loved it in the first place. If these kinds of self advertising methods are allowed and encouraged, it reduces the overall feeling of eliteness of the entire steem ecosystem where value sharing and appreciation enhances our life rather than abusing the system to collect profit.
