I recently went through the entire NSFW posts thread to see if there were any posts relating to child porn and shit like that and thank God there isn’t any to this date!
However I did find that there is an open door for sexually explicit content which is made way too available to minors and this is of some concern to me and should be of concern to everyone here actually... let me explain ....
I have nothing against pornography since it is a huge industry and literally millions of people love that stuff, however it is adult content and therefore should not be so readily available to minors in this forum. The fact that it (IS) will definitely hinder the sites reputation and create alot of controversial discussions on and about steemit and the steemit community which we really don’t want and don’t need.
Not everyone will set their parental control switches to the 'ON' position... this we all know... and it creats somewhat of a loophole which can be detrimental to the entire community down the line! (there are many ways this can turn sour)!!
In light of this, I do suggest that the steemit administrators make it foolproof so that minors can’t access it easily!
I would suggest that an age verification process be integrated into the platform where age can be confirmed before access to this section can be allowed. At least this way, the steemit platform will be able to maintain its child-safe character and avoid the negative aspects of being tagged or flagged as an 'unsafe for children' site.

I can’t speak for everyone but I do really appreciate the steemit opportunity, its content, its great community and its tremendous value..... and I personally think compromising it in this way is something we can all agree is uncalled for!
I’m persuaded that the administration could set up a better firewall to keep the porn in check and have it strictly reserved for a mature audience. Perhaps a code given to each adult steemian (upon their request for one) where age verification can be confirmed, would be a good way to do this. Following this confirmation, the allocated code of access can be applied to that specific account and such code can then be required to view the contents of the NSFW section. ........ This measure would then secure the content thereof as far as the general public is concerned.
So at the risk of being a party pooper, I thought it necessary to point this out "BEFORE" we all get smashed because of it rather than "AFTER" SHTF when it's too late and we're all licking our wounds because of it!

I fully agree that minors should not be given access to NSFW porn. Hopefully you get enough support to make this happen.

Well I doubt that anybody can kick steemit off the internet as it is a DAO at this stage - or at least the raw blockchain version of it. But obviously the adult content issue should be discussed and resolved at some point in the best appropriate manner possible.
Yes I think they need a waiver for 18 and older or whatever? I have it switched off, but could be a legal issue at some point? What about copyright as well?

So I took it upon myself to comb through everything to make sure there isn't any and I encourage those who have the courage and ability to do some porn-verifying to do so... not everyone is up to doing that for obvious reasons... The industry is an industry!! The sickest on our planet! What truly surprises me is that half the population still support these Bastards regardless simply because they are liberals, which proves that their partisanship to politics is more important than children getting beaten, raped, killed and eaten.... THAT to me was more than surprising! So although I'm just one little ant, I'll do my part to stop this whichever way I possibly can! There are millions of children suffering abuse of some kind in this world and it just MUST STOP! I'm happy to find like minded people such as you who actually care and want to do something about it too. But I do understand that not everyone wants to go through tons of porn flicks and images to hunt them out. Many have a disgust for pornography and I respect that. I however am not negatively affected by it, so I see that as an ability which is needed to hunt them down. Thank you for your support my friend! Feels good to meet someone like you, who is aware of the full spectrum of corruption! Not many are willing to look at the truth about paedophelia in "high society". I believe these sickos are purposely chosen because of their corruption, and therefor are easily blackmailed and controlled!

As for the experience, it was a long time ago and I've learned an important lesson from it. Never trust anyone.... that has saved me more than once! The past is gone and the future isn't made yet... so we make the present whatever we chose it to be... therefore might as well make it happy without dwelling on things which do not exist anymore right? :) I have become very into Indian teachings (Hindu From India) as well as Buddhist Teachings. I don't adhere to religious beliefs such as Christianity, Catholicism, Islamic or Muslim faiths or any doctrines which include saviors, messiahs, Father (Zeus archetypal Gods) or religious doctrines etc... I've studied theology and know how and why religious belief systems were created. They are essentially mind control mechanisms which serve the population's Governors (or sheep herders).... Truth and Real consciousness can only be found within.... The universe is our playground once we accept an understand this. The law of attraction is a reality which few have learned to use due to their inner ego. But all that is another realm of discussion upon which I could write a book ... so to be brief, I'll leave it at that! :)) I appreciate your willingness to do something about the child abuse problem and I'll keep you posted on any new developments in my project ... I'm sincerely happy to meet you.... we share a common ground on these matters ...
That's so great, I also am not waiting for any saviour, and it's my belief that "God" however you want to put it, is waiting for US to start changing things here. Not the other way around!

well @Lyndsaybowes , I really am touched by what you are saying here.... consider that I personally was, (or I guess we can say "I am") a victim of that crap... One who has been through and gotten over the trauma involved.... I understand it as a sickness and know it must be stopped! so I have a bone to chew regarding their monstrosities since they act out their disease and cause (for most victims) irreparable harm. I consider myself fortunate to have had the mental strength to deal with it and not let that affect me further.... so now I just want to stop them from poisoning the lives of others and I'm actually working on a Project launch to do exactly that! I've been in the planning process of creating a foundation to prevent this atrocity as well as save potential victims of this crap since 2008. So I have realized over that time I'll be needing alot of funding.... but I'm being positive about it and hoping I can find enough good people down the road to donate toward this cause. We'll see what happens! The funds needed are steep... which is why I have not yet been able to actually get it off the ground. But all that said, on to my last breath here below, I'll never give up! .... :)

Agree with you that a distinction needs to be made between appropriately segregating adult content and censorship. Because a parallel will immediately be drawn by those wanting their own "safe spaces" once the camel's nose of protecting children comes under the tent. Steve Jobs walked this line well, in my opinion, with the Apple app store, which maintained a classiness by how he constrained that free market. Steemit should take a page out of Steve Jobs' playbook and set the community standards, without using algorithmic censorship as the main players do, i.e. Google, Facebook, and Twitter.

It should not be too difficult to match respective adult/maturity laws in any given jurisdiction via IP access - as there are different laws as far as what constitutes "adulthood" in relation to sexual engagement. Via VPN these could be circumvented - but that is an intrinsic problem that the internet structure has as a whole and it is not really easily solvable.
I guess parents and concerned adults are somewhat victims of technology that is not easily containable anymore. A very deep philosophical issue that any community can probably only solve "locally" through whatever consensus mechanism...
I think here should be only people over 18 years, who can earn steem sell to bitcoins and withdraw to their bank accounts :D
