Steemit has the capability to become something truly special where people are paid for something that is worth real money. Quality content that enriches the human experience is hard to find on instagram or facebook and the ability to show the world what you have to offer and get a little something in return is appealing to a lot of people looking to make ends meet or to have a little extra at the end of the month.
What makes Steemit so special is also what makes it so crappy.
The idea of a “follow for a follow” or a “like for a like” just ruins the beauty of what Steemit should be. Between the pseudo friendships and disingenuous connections between those looking to make money, I have a hard time thinking that any of you really actually care about one another. It’s like this massive elephant in the room is staring us all in the face yet we go on pretending like we all are singing kumbaya next to the campfire. I see too many smiley faces and exclamation points. I feel like I’m getting sold something from an infomercial from you people.
After spending only a few hours on steemit I can already see that these issues aren't going anywhere unless there's enough people in this community stand up against this. It’s time we grow up and start putting quality posts out instead of trying to shmooz our way to some whale. Be happy enough at your day job and realize that this isn’t some great way to make millions.
I for one will be a trend setter. I wont follow you unless I like you. I wont upvote unless I enjoy your post. I will put effort in my blog so that the people that see it will enjoy my content. I will be proud of what I create and share with those that care.
Who knows, maybe being authentic on here could lead to something truly special both monetarily and creatively.

The ones I am closest to on Steemit are the ones that we reply to each other frequently.
This is what we need more of on Steemit. I'm talking like I've been on here for a long time...but really it's only been one week and I've noticed a lot of the points that you are talking about. Some Authors work very hard to create quality content that is both useful and entertaining for this community. Yet I've noticed countless comments simply stating, "Nice. I followed you. Can you follow me too?" These comments make me very annoyed. A follow for a follow is not what Steemit should be about. I wan't comments that show me that people have actually taken the time to read what I have posted. I want to hear from genuine people. Those are the people that I go out of my way to follow.
There are some of us on here that will stand up for each other if one of us is getting attacked or harassed. It just depends on the crowd and how strong they believe in something.
Most of the "like for like" and "follow for follow" gets people nowhere. The big influencers certainly dont participate in that sort of garbage, so it's minnows following minnows that have little or no concept on how this site actually works. Post quality content, dont care about the money, and be real and honest. It'll get you way further and faster than begging for votes will. Nice post!
