I hate sprouting words of doom and gloom but recent activities made me feel like I might just have to. Steemit has been making a lot of changes as of late, but I can't help but feel like the changes are to help those who are already in power. Take the Pay me 100% in Steem Power box. This is a great feature... But it will only help those who actually make anything on posts.
This is not the only feature they have implemented. Next was the wonderful resteem button. Again an amazing idea but I think that the creators failed to realize is that people want to vote for posts that will do really well aka those followed by whales. By doing this they get a little bit of Steem power. This leaves those who are new or who do not have a lot of followers falling behind even more.
I had the privilege to be featured by another author. This gave me hope for Steemit. I was slowly gaining a following and I was making some money on the side as well. Yes I was sharing whatever I made off the post but to me that didn't matter. As of late there has been a lot of harassment going on around those authors, people contacting featured writers and sprouting lies of the people featuring them. Many have lost their major followers and was making a fraction of what they used to make on their post and those they helped. I still chose to continue being featured even if I didn't make a lot of money because my following continued to grow. Sources tell me that these authors have now been threatened that if they continue to help others that they will be down voted into oblivion.
So what does this mean? In my mind I now see Steemit as an ocean, but instead of being full of whales and dolphins and tiny fish friends. It is now shark invested waters where it is every fish for itself.
I recall reading articles of people quitting their jobs to become full time Steemers, I myself am unemployed and was using Steemit as my source of income.
Many have been screaming that it was the end of days for Steemit but a few weeks ago @gavvet posted statistics of how it was stable and nothing to worry about. I can't help but feel like in a few weeks those statistics might drop.
Is this the end of days for Steemit? Honestly I don't know. I would however suggest to those who was making Steemit a full time job to maybe get a part time job.
But that's just my 2 cents.
Till next time

@thegoldencookie
Hehe that actually made me laugh out loud. So true...
But whales aren't fish; they are mammals. : )
somebody knows their animals ;) just joking I knew that. I'm pretty sure that's a steemit meme though... some "whales" (the steemit kind) are so cold that I might think that they are fish...
Yeah I know they are mammals, but in the movie "Moby Dick" he says fish. The meme is the actual scene where he says that.
It made you laugh, but if a whale sees it I'll probabliy get downvoted.
nawww...I disagree. I think re-steeming is a good idea.
Like everything it's got to be used properly. Like everything...there is a learning curve.
I can't see a problem with "pay me 100% in steem Power" I use it all the time. It saves me steps. My authors rewards are directly depostited where I want them and where it can do me the most good. POWER. everyone wants more power...right? You want your vote to have power? You want your curation to have power?
What's the downside?
I don't disagree with you on re steem being a good thing. I do disagree that it helps though. and you are right about the "pay me 100% in steem Power" but as I stated in my article above, it only helps if you actually make a few cents which in most people's cases doesn't happen to often.
nothing worth while is free. Some effort is required. JUST the other day I've started to be rewarded...I've gone from $2 to over $100 in two days and I have high hopes...AFTER bein on STEEMit for a month and spendings many hours each day. I've posted over 500 times and follow over 500 people and committed and voted proportionately. FINALLY my Reputation is above fifty...now things start to happen. Critical mass has been reached, so to speak.
Critical mass is important. Other wise nothing happens.
That's why I proposed a simple change in favor of new authors with good content - take a look and share and upvote is you like my suggestion:
The Flawed Philosophy Behind Steemit Curation + Solution!
Good article and I agree with your points. in the past i believe that curators and authors received 50/50. I could be wrong about that though
