It depends how much you are exchanging - for tiny amounts it might be but every time I've checked it has been on average cheaper for the amounts I exchange. That said I would normally exchange a bitcoin at a time or more and usually I would be converting from bitcoins to Steem or SD so that might make a difference. Plus since prices for crypto fluctuate fast there is always the possibility that it will take time for the prices to catch up.

mh. this makes sense.
but I just checked this at polo.
Even if you would buy through the first 200 Sell orders ATM it would be cheaper to do so than using blocktrades.
(the volume would be around 27btc. )
but of course this depends on volume. didn't checked other exchanges
The fluctuation delay on blocktrades is no plus it is more like a lottery.
if you can profit from a delay you also can lose on it.
Possible it might have changed since - I suspect it likely fluctuates so sometimes you will be better off sometimes worse. I would rather use them for the convenience, speed and because it has less of an effect on the price.
don't get me wrong.
Blocktrades is great ! and i like the new interface too
Even if it is a bit more expensive it's ok at some point for services to cost some fees.
I just wanted to point this out. because this maybe isn't irrelevant for anyone.
So if prices aren't meaningless you should check prices on different mediums before buying large amounts
