Why Fitness Should Be About You, Not Trying to Obtain the "Perfect" Body

in #steemit7 years ago

Hey everyone!

It's been a while, but as always, it is good to be back! Once I can get going on a consistent schedule with all of my work, I will be able to post on here more frequently and engage daily again. :)

This video goes into why I am focusing on the fitness industry and the opportunity that I see with it. My company will focus on this perspective of fitness... one that has nothing to do with numbers, but everything to do with how you FEEL. Most importantly, making sure that you are only working out because you want to and you want to see what your body is capable of. So often people think of fitness as a chore (and I used to be guilty of that also!) but this mindset shift really helped me.

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! Happy to back on @Dtube. :) #onelovedtube

I totally agree fitness shouldn't be a chore or about achieving end results. Fitness is a means of becoming healthy and exerting stress from your body. Fitness can also be really fun! Cool video and great perspective. Glad to have you back :)

Yes, exactly!!! Thank you very much. :) Happy to have someone else who loves fitness agree with this perspective!

Little late but always loving your work, I think the crowd has spoken on this one... you nail the underlying issues with motivation for working out... I tried for awhile but I find the gym experience isn’t for me, rather walk the dog and vlog 🤙 I was once 260 lbs now I’m 176, 7 years in the bakery burning a lot of calories in the summer 🤯 who would think I lost weight in the bakery 🤣

A walk with the dog and a vlog is a productive way to be active. ;) That's also crazy about how much you lost working in the bakery! From the heat?? Also, I didnt know you worked in a bakery, that's so cool. What's your favorite pastry?

Beautiful post! Thank you. And I agree with you, fitness should be more for the mind than for the body. Felling happy during work and proud afterwards. But I am also a friend of having goals. Of course, not something like "I want to loose 20kg in 40 days, because I need a bikini body for my beach holiday", but something like " I really want to be able to do this or that, and when I am able to do that I can do even more".
I am personally training to be stronger so I can do a handstand one day. I think, that this is such a cool pose, when I am able to do that, I am also able to realize other poses. This is so motivating 😍 I hope I could explain what I mean 😶 It's, as you said, about the feeling and I am feeling great with reaching towards my goals more and more!

Yes, having goals is extremely important! I think it's good to have smaller goals and larger ones (like your handstand goal). I am beyond grateful that you took the time to watch my video and write out this thoughtful comment. I also look forward to seeing you do your handstand. You'll have to make a post on here! Sidenote: I would love to do a handstand too. Maybe I make that a goal too? :)

Very good

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

Right on, good points! Even goes for me why I started, I was tired of being made fun of how skinny I was. Now, my whole mindset has changed on why I do what I do. Good stuff :)

New sub too!

Thank you for the kind comment! That's amazing and I am happy that you have changed the mindset on what you do. It's sad that we get labeled and work out initially because of the labels, but it's a constant journey to learn to love our bodies. :) Followed you!

Totally agree! Before I used to do it for modelling gigs/acting and performing arts, but now it's all about health and wellness. So cool to hear about your mission and business - it's a noble one! Love how you used the text as well :)

I'm happy you liked the text! I was excited to incorporate that in :) And it takes some time to switch our mindset since society is so focused on the aesthetics! But that is amazing and happy you do it for your health now. Sidenote: let's see those modeling pics and acting clips please

Very well done, I love this message. It is definitely something people don't say enough in the fitness world.

Thank you, @toddmck! I hope that it's something the fitness world learns to say a little more. :)

On point. Aesthetics should be a by product of a healthy lifestyle, makes no sense to reverse engineer it.

Yes, exactly and well put! Focusing on the aesthetics just makes the process seem like punishment versus being amazed at how our bodies react to a healthy lifestyle!

Loved the video, great editing and the backdrop is 😍. I totally agree with you, we are constantly bombarded on how we should look to achieve the "perfect" body. Love how your message is to focus on happiness and to workout for the right reasons!

Yay!! Happy you loved it!! And thank you <3 Just trying to get my message out there one step at a time!

Love the message, fitness has so much more to offer than just looking good.
Great that you see it this way. :)

Thank you!! It's a message that I feel needs to be spread more in the fitness world. :)

I quite agree. Awhile back, I actually wrote a post with quite similar thought about getting into fitness or movement for the right reasons.

Exercise for the right reasons -because you want to be healthy, because you want to do things without feeling physically and mentally incapacitated, because you love and respect yourself enough to do what it is good for you, not because other people make you feel ugly and unattractive.

This is such a great video. I think you nailed it when you mentioned how many people think they have to have a prototypical body type to be considered healthy. I have struggled with looking at the scale sometimes and thinking dam how am i the same weight. Then I have to step back and think does my body feel good, are my clothes feeling looser, does my face look thinner. I normally take progress pics to help keep me motivated when I get discouraged.

Thanks for the great read and I am glad you support and motivate others to achieve their own health.

Progress pictures are a better way to monitor change! It's hard to associate ourselves and our success just with a number & it's also difficult to see our body's changes everyday. Thank you for the comment :) I am happy you liked it and the message.

I agree I look back at the start of my first picture on my 50 a day push up challenge and my arms were not defined and I looked chunkier. Now I feel learner and my biceps, chest, and shoulders are are more toned.
Of course I always look forward to your post.
Thanks for the tips and motivation!

I love this so much, I could relate to this. I love what you stand for, where your passion lies and I know you are going to change so many peoples lives with your company.

@paolajane !!!! I missed this comment!!! THANK YOU. Means the world coming from you! Literally when I see you comment I get so excited. lol I'm excited to unveil the name and more about the company soon too so you will have to let me know what you think!

You are also changing lives already ;) Love that you are so raw and real. It's important to be this way especially nowadays. Keep killing the IG game too -- I need to take notes!
