Out of bandwidth hell!!

Ok everyone, so finally I can say for sure that I’m not in bandwidth hell anymore!
It’s been almost 1 week that I haven’t run out bandwidth! I can finally answer back everyone straight away, I can finally post at whatever time I want. Before I had to wait usually for the window between 11 pm and 14 am, the time when I think most Americans weren’t online, now I don’t need to do it anymore, even when steemit is full of people I can post and comment.

My feelings about bandwidth:

Ok, so it’s been 28 days since I joined steemit, a little more than half of those days I had bandwidth problems, but that never stopped me, I wrote all the comments I wanted and posted them when I had bandwidth, I created good content and got out of bandwidth hell fast, I worked my arse off on steemit!

I’ve seen people complaining that they don’t have Bandwidth and that this is a failed platform because of it, well this is a free platform you know, nothing free comes without bad things, would you go to your neighbor’s house to eat for free and complain the food had no salt? Or would you grab the salt from the table and put a little on your food? In this analogy your neighbors are steemit, salt is SteemPower and the food is your account.
And is bandwidth such a bad thing? It’s not 100% a bad thing, it prevents users from just spamming away comments, it prevents spammers from creating more and more accounts, the early grind is the most troublesome part in my opinion, when you get to about 50SP (which shouldn’t take you that long, probably 1-2months writing comments, upvoting and maybe some content here and there) you stop having bandwidth problems!

Look at this little fellow, i almost want to hug him

Now for other solutions, you can try, and that I thought of trying but ended up not doing it, leasing SP from @minnowbooster, why didn’t I do it? Because leasing some SP from @minnowbooster would be a temporary fix, I preferred powering up the 4 STEEM I bought and work on a permanent solution. I might lease some in the summer before that would just be a waste since I can't be online as much.

Some of you will say: “You were just lucky! You got all that SP because you were lucky!” Well, thanks for sharing your opinion, I know some other people, looking at you @nathan290595, that started at the same time as me and that are out of bandwidth hell too, are they lucky too? No! they worked their butts off, they have great content, and people notice that! Also, if you go look at my comments I never once spammed! I always read the post and then commented, and I never comment something like "I liked your post, good story" I always try to be either funny or give some of my own knowledge about the post.

Most people I see complaining about bandwidth are people that want to post 1 photo and 2 lines of text and expect that to earn thousands of dollars…That’s not the right way to work this platform, neither is spamming comments like “ I love you content… great share, I follow you fallow me back”, I’m still amazed at how they write “follow” the right way once, and then right after they write ”fallow.”

But I should also say that YES!!!!, in the future, if the platform keeps increasing in population, we will need to increase the bandwidth limit, but I don’t think we are there yet, if I was able to make it in less than 1 month, why shouldn’t others also be able to do it? But this is just my opinion, of course, remember, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one! And I would love to hear your arsehole opinion about this, do you think it’s time to increase the bandwidth?

What does this mean to me?

Well, now that I’m finally out of bandwidth hell I can finally engage more with the community!! 24/7 engaging, I will engage so much you guys will be tired of me, you will ask the GODS to stop me from engaging soo much! Just kidding... classes restarted so my steemit time will be greatly reduced

Just wanted to finish this post saying, this is my way of trying to motivate you new minnows! If I was able to get out of bandwidth hell in 1 month i'm sure you can do it too! Good luck to you all! If anyone needs any advices you can 100% ask me in the comments!

Edit: If anyone wants to find info on voting power and bandwidth use https://steemd.com/@teutonium just change teutonium to your steemit username.

I commented on this a little while ago on my blog. I don't think bandwidth limits are a bad thing, but I think the distribution could be fine tuned. Of course, it makes sense for those who own more to have less problems. That's cool. The biggest issue I have is some accounts have over 1 TB of bandwidth. Is it even possible to use that much bandwidth ever!?! So I feel like some of that bandwidth is wasted and could redistributed to minnows. I mean, I own ~$300 USD of SP and still run into bandwidth problems! I don't even post much. I mean $300 is a lot for a teenage college student. I feel like I should be able to do my 2 posts a day with no problem. I mean that's not a lot of content.

85.653 STEEM
(-70.548 STEEM)

You don't have 300 USD of SP, you delegated 70 SP to someone so of course you are running into bandwidth problems, if you hade those 70SP back you wouldn't have any problems! i stopped having bandwidth problem when i got to 50SP so it's not that much

Ah yes. I noticed that after I logged off and meant to update it. Either way, 50SP = ~$175 USD is still a lot for someone that hopes to use Steemit for a social media platform. And thanks for correcting me, @teutonium before I had the chance ;)

50SP are not that hard to make on steemit... i'm only 1 month old and i already have 120SP and next week i'll probably be close to 200SP.
They will change the bandwidth sooner or later, they should increase it slightly. You should scroll down and look at what targodan wrote, it's my exact feelings.

Yes! i started 29 days ago a have the same problem everysingle day. I still have it but on a huge less proportion. Thanks for sharing this post!

People should know that the road is not that big, 1 month is nothing when compared to the 944 months of life expectancy the average US citizen has!
this is a platform for hard workers, even though i haven't worked that hard, i'm loving creating new content, especially since i love the topics i talk about in my posts xD

Totally agree with you!

You can't easily catch a fish out of the pond...

True!! Unless you have an aquarium or try to fish on the sea xD But i see where you were going with that

Thank you very much for your post! I ran into bandwidth limitation today and could not understand why - it was the first thing in the morning that I tried to post what I wrote last night.
I ended up having to send some ETH to PowerUp.
I still don't understand how to calculate my remaining / allotted bandwidth.

The short answer: Don't even try to calculate your bandwidth yourself. But there are tools that can show it to you. For example steemd.com, or the Steemit Sidebar.

@targodan - thank you! I found it from another post.

It's a little tricky, i never calculated it, i usually just did what i mention in one of my first posts, this one:

https://steemit.com/steem/@teutonium/dealing-with-the-low-bandwidth-problem-a-must-read-for-anyone-starting

But if you don't want to read trough all that, i just stacked comments and posts when i was low on bandwidth and usually at around this time of day i had bandwidth to use and posted everything at the same time.

Looking at you steemd.com info you look like you are upvoting way to much stuff, you should always have your voting power between 80% and 100%, don't look at mine xD i'm an upvoting fanatic, i think mine is at 70% now, but i also did the same "mistake" in the start, i got my voting power almost down to 0%

@teutonium - I know it now. Thank you!

First things first: You really earned to be out of bandwidth hell. I've seen you post really regularly and all of it quality posts! :)

Regarding the bandwidth increase. I believe we are quite close to needing a little bump in bandwidth. I am not (yet) out of the 15 SP range and I really noticed bandwidth problems on the weekends. To the point where I wrote one post, made one vote and then couldn't even redeem my rewards to up my SP. Not saying it's super terrible and impossible to work around but it can be discouraging for new users. I think eventually we have to ask "Do we only want the super engaged and hardcore people on Steemit? Or do we want more casual people as well?"

It is a balance act though, because increasing the bandwidth too much would make spamming worse and I don't think anybody wants that.

100% agree we should get some mathematicians to do some statistics on this, trying to find a balance is hard, and yes, i think in the future we will need a small bump in bandwidth, i'm thinking it won't take more than 1 year for that small increase, probably in the summer... Let's wait and see

I'm actually going tbrough hell at the present moment. I am busting my ars everyday on this platform. I am 9 days into this but I've put out a lot of content, most of it which is really good and thoughtful. If you can do it in a month I can too.

I'm sure you can do it my friend! i'll check some of your content to see if i like and also to give my own opinion

Thank you. I appreciate the support. WE are communication now but I make it a point to respond to every reply. I'm developing this habit to help me succeed here.

Congrats mannnn 😎

That picture is so apt hahaha.

Yeah I know what you mean, we had a good run but it certainly wasn't without a hell of a lot of work that went into it, Steemit has been a hugeeee part of my life since I signed up and I know it has been yours too.

I find those generic comments so funny lol, like I don't blame them really, they just want to earn some money, but they just go about it totally the wrong way.

Quality content speaks for itself.

I agree about bandwidth too, as much as it pissed me off at times, it's definitely a good thing overall and the positives outweigh the negatives.

I think people that come from sites like FB have the mentality of "Facebook is free, FB doesn't have bandwidth issues, this sucks" But what they don't realise is FB's business model is to get millions of dollars of advertising every year. In FB you are the product and they're abusing you to make a profit.

Steemit has no ads, Steemit has no large company on control taking all the profits, I think a bandwidth cap for lower SP users is pretty reasonable in comparison to the alternative

I will engage so much you guys will be tired of me, you will ask the GODS to stop me from engaging soo much!

ahaha no way! Your comments are always very interesting and fun as well as your posts of course!!

I don't suffer from bandwidth issues but I do suffer from voting power issues :P I want to help more other users with my vote but unfortunately you cannot always keep your voting power high enough. To be honest I didn't get the bandwidth thing till two weeks ago :P

I know, i had to stop giving upvotes for 2 days, my Voting power got to 50%, i'm addicted to giving upvotes xD
