There's been a flood of social sites that pay in the last few years. I was on Tsu that paid in dollars, but ran out of funds earlier in the year. I've also played with Bitlanders and Minds that both used Bitcoin to start with, but seem to have dropped it since. I've heard mention of Yours, but not looked into it. It seems they are using Bitcoin too.
I found this story via Brave New Coin about Steemit user @coinbitgold being disillusioned by the power of whales. She's made a few thousand dollars here that has lost its value over the last few months and is cashing out.
It looks like Yours is opening to the public next year, but has a few stories up already, some about Steemit. They have some different ways to make money from posts. You can 'endorse' it where the creator and those who promote it get a share of the money you put in. They are also looking at optionally charging to read a post. It will be interesting to see if people will pay. Some newspapers have tried this, but they have to compete against all the free sources out there. There are cases where I would want to 'tip' a post after reading it. I have sent money to people on Steemit when I liked their post or comment. A 'tip' button could automate this.
Competition will drive innovation. There's room for multiple options.

The title? Depends on how you read it :) It could be supporting them. I tend to play with words
