Shopping with Steem Dollars?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I've accumulated a nice amount of Steem Dollars (SBD) over the last month or so. I know I could use some exchange to convert this into Bitcoin and then to pounds or something, but I'd really like to be able to spend it directly. That's more convenient and would also allow another user to increase their balance. It's also a pretty stable currency, so we don't have to worry too much about exchange rate fluctuations.

One option is Peerhub where some people accepting SBD. For physical goods it's going to be more practical to deal with people in the UK, but I don't think it has location searching yet.

The ideal marketplace needs to make things simple. Sites like ebay have it all worked out, but we need to avoid complex systems for dealing with disputed deals. It might help to have a separate trading reputation. Perhaps something could be built on top of the blockchain. We also need ways to communicate delivery details, which should not be public. Should funds be held until delivery?

For now we can operate informally using email to exchange details.

I am still interested in buying guitar picks for my collection. Posting those should not be too expensive. Let me know if you have anything interesting in that area and we can negotiate a deal. I've been using the #pickswap tag for this.

What tags should we use for buying and selling? I've put a few possible options on this post.

This is fantastic news. It would be nice to see a retail ecosystem for STEEM grow. This would help the STEEM economy really grow, and also get a lot more people to start paying attention to it and taking the coin more seriously.

I like your proposition! Especially that you're willing to trade informally for now, before there is a marketplace for this. That way it gives people incentive to actually create one.
